Signing Up For Facebook

Info needed to create an account:

An email address is required to create a Facebook account.

After completing the form, you will be required to complete the security check. Simply type the words you see in the box and click SIGN UP.

Finally, you will be asked to visit your email and confirm your Facebook account by clicking on the link provided in the email.

Check your inbox for an email entitled “Facebook Registration Confirmation.” Simply click on the link provided in the email to

finalize your Facebook registration. Congrats! You now

have a Facebook account.

The confirmation link will send you back to Facebook to begin the first 3 steps to creating your Facebook profile.

Step 1 involves logging into your email account to find friends in your email address book that might have a profile on Facebook.

Remember you may skip any of these steps if desired.

Step 2 asks you to fill out information for your new

profile. This includes school and work information. Again you may skip this step but it

will be helpful in locating friends on Facebook.

Step 3 invites you to join a network. Join a network allows

you to view the profiles on others in the same network. Again this helps you locate friends. This setting may be changed later.

When you log-in to your Facebook page in the future, you will be welcomed at your HOME page. This page provides you with a snapshot of your friends activities and any new

notifications you may have received. Notifications may include new friends, wall postings, event invitations, etc.

To view your profile you will need to select PROFILE at the top of the page.

1. Go to www.facebook.com

2. Enter your email address and Facebook password in the boxes at the top right corner.

Here is your basic Facebook profile. This is what others view when they want to find out about your interests and recent activities.

Your profile has:• A space where you can upload a profile picture. • A friends section, which displays pictures of Facebook members you've befriended. • A section that shows the personal information you've decided to share with other members. • A comments section called the wall, where other members can leave messages for you and see your recent activity on Facebook.• You can also share What’s On Your Mind? which can also be called your status.

Under the INFO tab, you can add as much or as little information about as you desire to share with others on Facebook.

To expand an information area simply click on the name and you will have the opportunity to add details about yourself to your profile. When you are finished click DONE EDITING.

Other tabs will be added as you add applications to your profile.

You may find friends that have their own Facebook profiles two different ways.

1. You can log into your email to find people in your email address book.

2. You can search for people utilizing Facebook’s search feature.

To use the email option type in your email address and password then click Find Friends.

To use the search feature, enter a name or an email address of someone and click the magnifying glass to

see matching results.

Or search for friends using the links for high school, college or coworker provided. This will take you to a

search box to enter your past school or work experience. This will match you with others on

Facebook with the same information.

You may change any setting on your Facebook account. This includes settings on your

profile, application settings and privacy settings.

If you are concerned about your privacy on Facebook,

you can change privacy settings to allow certain

people to view only parts of your profile or even block an

individual. Further information about privacy

can be found by clicking the Help button at the bottom of

the Settings page.

Chat features are also available through Facebook. The task bar at the bottom of your screen shows

who is also on Faceboook and you can talk with them in real-time.

Facebook Applications

You can also customize your Facebook profile using Facebook applications. Facebook automatically includes photos, videos, and events. These are applications developed by Facebook and available to all members. Here's a quick breakdown on what each application does:

•The photos application allows you to upload as many images as you like. If you have a picture of another Facebook member, you can tag the photo with that member's name. After tagging the photo, it'll appear both in your photo album and on your friend's profile. •Facebook's video application is similar in many ways to YouTube. Members can upload videos, but Facebook requests that all files remain below 100 megabytes and that videos be shorter than two minutes. •The events application allows you to invite other Facebook members to a real-life gathering.

To add other applications to your profile you can search the

application directory or be invited by your friends. Either way

Facebook will ask permission to add the application to your profile.

Adding an application will allow that application to access your

information.

One option that's gotten a lot of attention is poke. When you poke someone, Facebook sends a message to the other member that says he or she has been poked by you. What does this mean? Many members use the feature as a flirting technique, but according to Facebook, it doesn't mean anything at all -- it was included to give Facebook members a fun way to interact with one another. In short, a poke is whatever you want it to be.
