Yarns

• Made from 1 type of fiber or many put together.

• Twist 2 yarns together– Alters texture– Produces different color

Spun Yarns

• Made from staple fibers– Really short, measured in cm or inches– All natural fibers

Filament Yarns

• Made of filament fibers– Long continuous fibers– Silk– Manufactured

• Smoother• More lustrous

• Monofilament– One strand

• Nylon• Fishing line

• Multifilament– Filament fibers twisted

Ply Yarns

• Twist 2 or more single yarns together

• Ply tells number of strands

• Can form a cord or cable

• High-twist: firm, strong, relatively fine

• Too-tight: weaken• Low-twist: softer,

weaker

Novelty Yarns

• 2 or more yarns that are not a like are put together

• Sometimes have loops around each other.
