Spring is here – even though we are not done with snow yet. It is getting warmer, and the days are longer. This is my favorite time of the year. I hope everyone is enjoying it. We have a lot of fun stuff planned for the summer. We have some great classes planned. Beth has some great bag classes; JaNelle is expanding her needlework class to include Amish Country; Patty has some fun classes that can use Jelly Rolls; Mary will has a new Picture Piecing class; Zenith has expanded her inktense painting classes; and I am will be teaching another set of stash buster classes. SEASoNAl SIlHoUETTES: Using the raw-edge appliqué technique or appliqué technique of your choice, we will create wall pictures, table toppers or other projects from the Seasonal Silhouettes book by Edyta Sitar. You can trace the patterns yourself or purchase the precuts. We will work on two month’s blocks in each class. These are beautiful blocks that can be set separately or made into a full quilt. AbSolUTE bEGINNERS: Discover quilt making without a great investment in time or materials and learn the basics. You can use our rotary cutter, mats and rulers as you construct a lap size quilt. IRISH MIST: Inspired by an ancient marble floor in an old Irish Catholic Church, the girls of The Quilt Branch designed this quilt using rich batiks on a cream background. CHURN DASH WEAVE: The homesteader’s life and their daily activities contributed names to many quilt blocks. Nineteenth century quilts reflected what women saw around them, and what was important in their lives, such as the churn, a common household item. The Churn Dash Weave is a simple variation of the popular traditional churn dash quilt. It’s a wonderful way to use up scraps and a fun quilt to collect fat quarters! HEARTS CoME HoME: Gather up your fat quarters for this fun crazy stack and whack using The Buggy Bran method. This is not like a tradi-tional block where everything matches perfectly. But don’t worry. It all works when you are done. We will spend the first class cutting and sewing. The second class we will be finishing the blocks and working on the appliqués. INVISIblE MACHINE ApplIQUE: This is a techniques class in which we will explore wash-away appliqué paper technique, the effectiveness of different threads, needle sizes, as well as the ease of making curved stems. Each student will experiment with stitch type, width and length in order to utilize the best option available with your machine to achieve an invisible machine appliqué stitch. We will practice on inner and outer points, curves, and small circles with the sample. Some applique experience is helpful, but not necessary. New club offers easy, cute projects plus tips and tricks for decoration

Extraordinary log Cabin: The Log Cabin quilt pattern is one of the most beloved and recognized of quilt designs. Judy Martin has written books on different ways to put together log cabin quilts. Needlework around the World, Mainland USA: Come trav-el the world with us with the Needlework Club. We will explore different types of needlework and motifs from various parts of our country. The projects for this summer will concentrate on unique and native American cultures. We study the Amish, the early American eastern seaboard, the Seminole Indians, and the Mimbres Indians of the Southwest. Projects using these new techniques will include an apron, a “thread roll”, a sewing ma-chine cover, a tape measure cover. This will be an exploration, discussion, demonstration-type class. Superior University: This club can help you expand your knowledge and skills in sewing and related techniques and learn to successfully use products you have not previously used. Each month we will work on a specially designed project including se-lected products each month you will receive a carefully designed project including selected products. You will receive a simple pattern and easy-to-follow instructions to create a project. The goal is to help you increase your knowledge and use of threads and related products that will add more possibilities to your projects. “The Simple What Not’s” club will feature exclusive quilts designs by Kim Diehl and her new fabric collections. Her next collection is called Vintage Farmhouse and is expected to arrive in June! Each month will feature a new “do-able” little quilt with traditional patchwork and a sprin-kling of some appliqué here and there! They really will be “do-able” — none of the quilts will be larger than 40” square! These adorable quick-to-sew projects are perfect for a dose of instant gratification The great thing about her fabric is that all her collections “play nicely” together! In addition to the project directions, there will be sewing tips and tricks, recipes and ideas for decorating with quilts. The “Simple What Not’s Club” will meet the 2nd Friday of each month beginning in July 2014 at 1pm. At the meeting, we will go over the pattern and you can stay and cut and sew your project for the rest of the afternoon. These projects are only available in a Kit. The patterns are not available. Kits will be avail-able on the second Friday of each month. There is no cost to be a member of the club.
