NSDL - Trusted by more than 9 Million Investors Inside : March 2009 NSDL launches NSDL Certification in Depository Operations (NCDO) In order to increase the availability of trained personnel for depository operations, NSDL has launched NSDL Certification in Depository Operations (NCDO). NCDO oriented training progaramme covers various aspects of depository operations followed by a written test. Certificate is given to the participant on successful passing of the test which is valid for a period of five years. The persons holding the certificate will be considered as qualified personnel in relation to the requirement for service centres of the Participant. The first such NCDO programme was conducted in Mumbai on March 7, 2009. Similar programmes are scheduled to be held at New Delhi and Kolkata (on March 21, 2009) and at Chennai (on March 25, 2009). Feature of partial settlement of pay-in related instructions executed from Client to Clearing Member Pool Account A feature for partial settlement of pay-in related instructions is developed. As per this feature, in case of insufficient balance in Client’s account, instructions given by a Client to transfer securities from its account to the Clearing Member (CM) Pool Account will get executed to the extent of balance available in the Client’s account at the time of pay-in of securities. This feature is proposed to be effective from March 21, 2009. Performance Summary
In February 2009, a total quantity of 373 cr. shares having a value of Rs. 50,463 cr. were settled in demat form in the stock exchanges connected to NSDL. Table 3 shows the settlement fi gures over a period of last three years.
As on February 28, 2009, 27,929 cr. securities having a value of Rs. 29,06,765 cr. were dematerialised. Table 2 shows the dematerialisation fi gures over a period of last three years.
As on February 28, 2009, there are 96,79,833 Investor accounts from within the country and abroad. 2,295 clearing member accounts have been opened to facilitate trading and settlement of demat shares in the stock exchanges connected to NSDL. Table 1 shows the growth in investor accounts over a period of three years.

As on February 28, 2009, 274 Participants are offering depository services from 8,664 locations across 934 cities/ towns in the country.
As on February 28, 2009, 7,788 companies are available for demat. Table 4 indicates the increase in the number of companies that have joined NSDL over a period of last three years.

COMMERCIAL PAPER
As on February 28, 2009, 132 issuers have issued 11,847 commercial papers in demat form. 11,237 instruments have been redeemed and 610 commercial papers are available for dematerialisation.Table 4B shows the growth over a period of last three months.
DEBENTURES/BONDS
As on February 28, 2009, 489 issuers have issued 26,841 debentures/bonds in demat form. 20,148 instruments have been redeemed and 6,693 instruments are available for dematerialisation. Table 4A shows the growth over a period of last three months.
