Battleship 2 Corner Merit badges are an integral aspect Fall Comparee 2 of the Boy Scout Program. A Scout must earn merit badges in order to advance to the Honor Ranks of Star Scout and Life Scout on his Trail to Eagle; once an Eagle Scout he may continue to earn merit badges to qualify for his Eagle Palms. Earning a merit badge gives a scout the kind of self-confidence that comes from overcoming obstacles to achieve a goal. Though the merit badge program, a scout learns career skills, develops socially, and may develop physical skills and hobbies that may provide him a lifetime of recreation. Because we believe that our Scouts are deserving of the very best that our Merit Badge Counselors can offer, we have the follOWing gUidelines: 1) Must be of good character . 2) Must be at least 18 years of age . 3) Must have skills and education in the subjects for which they are to serve as merit badge counselors. 4) Must be able to work with scout age boys. 5) Must complete the Merit Badge Information Form. 6) Must complete Boy Scout Adult Registration Application ( Only if the adult is no/currently registered with the B.S.A. ) Each Merit Badge Counselor may counsel for a moximum of SEVEN merit hodges, with no more thon THREE Eagle required merit bodge5 . Rendezvous with History

On 26-27 of September, thirty scouts, scouters and family members of troop # 174 took a trip into history.

Battleship Cove, Fall River, Massachusetts, displays the Battleship USS Massachusetts, the Distroyer USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr., the Submarine USS Lionfish as well as PT boots, a LCM Landing Croft and the USS Fall River. The attending members of the troop stayed two days and one night touring on board the ships.

In addition to visiting the ships the scouts were treated to the many displays and activities offered at the Maritime Museum, including Knot tying and aspecial TItanic display.

The MASSACHUSmS is credited with firing the first and the lost American 16-inch shells in World War II. The first was fired in November 1942 during the invasion of North Africa, the lost at Honshu in 1945.

The KEN NEDY took port in the first United Notions counteroffensive of the Korean War. In 1962, she gained worldwide attention during the Cuban blockade when her crew intercepted aSoviet Freighter. The FALL RIVER was the flagship for the nuclear testing on Bikini Atoll in 1946. The LlO NFiSH patroled the Pacific in World War II.

Fall Camporee On October 9 - 11, 1998 the Hudson Volley Council, Minisink

District held their Fall Camporee at Airport Pork in Matamoras, Po. The theme was Search and Rescue.

Troop # 174 hod eleven boys participate in all the events, which included extraction, mountain rescue, dog searching, and high river rescue. There was also competition consisting of asmoke filled room, fireman relay, knot tying and hackerman knot connecting. Troop# 174 took FIRST PLACE in the knot tying and did very well in all the other competition.

The boys hod fun and would like to thank the Matamoros Troop for a job well done, and all the different organizations that participated.
