Spectrum Care
We’re an independent charitable trust that provides support for children, young people and adults with disabilities, and their families.
Our services include 24-hour support for people living in residential homes throughout the Auckland and Waikato regions, respite support for adults in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty, and respite support for children in Auckland.
We also provide specialised Home support, Transitions support and Aspirations support for people in the greater Auckland region, along with After-school and School Holiday programmes for children.
Our independent living support is specifi cally focused on empowering people to their lives of choice – lives like any other – in the community.

The training is about supporting people as they age, including normal ageing processes and age-related conditions. We also discuss age-related changes in people’s responses to medication. This training should be attended by support workers supporting people who are aged 40 years or older.

This training aims to teach support workers about the eating, drinking and swallowing risks that people with intellectual disabilities may face. This includes behavioural eating and drinking risks such as cramming/stuffi ng and behaving inappropriately with food.
Poor oral hygiene can have a big impact not only a person’s overall health, but can also lead to aspiration pneumonia. In this session, we look at best practice for oral hygiene and provide some ideas and strategies around helping to support people to maintain a healthy mouth.

This NZQA-recognised training is provided by an external training provider. It is based on NZQA Unit Standard 26551 Provide fi rst aid for life threatening conditions and 26552 Demonstrate knowledge of common fi rst aid conditions.
Any support worker who has previously achieved Unit Standard 6400 Manage First Aid in an Emergency Situation can be assessed against this Unit Standard during this one-day refresher course.

The objective is to raise the participant’s awareness of the factors that can lead to injury for themselves and the people they support, and to experience and apply safe-handling principles to all their manual-handling tasks.

Some people exhibit unsafe sexual behaviour that puts themselves (or others) at risk. This training provides support workers with an understanding of the boundaries of safe sexual behaviour, and strategies that can be used to support people to maintain their safety and dignity at all times. Presenting to others with skill and confi dence is an art. This practical two-day programme will help you develop confi dence and competence for any future business presenting, covering a range of valuable topics. Participants will learn and practice how to:
> Feel more calm, confi dent and in control when presenting and speaking to groups
> Be more engaging and memorable> Save a lot of time when planning and
preparing> Use professional structure techniques
for presentations that are easy to follow and understand
> Never lose your train of thought again (even without notes!)
> Engage your audience with eye contact, body language, movement, visual aids, vocal quality and colourful language.

Your organisation will be invoiced on completion of the training. We are unable to take payments on the day of the training.
Places are restricted to ensure high delivery standards. If the course fails to attract the minimum number of participants, we reserve the right to cancel. In that case, we would offer a transfer to the next available course.
If you need to cancel your course booking, we require fi ve business days’ notice. If you are unable to give such notice, we would be happy for you to arrange for another participant to attend on the day. If you’re unable to give us fi ve business days’ notice, 50% of the course fees are payable and transfers to another course will not be permitted.
Please allow yourself time to unwind and enjoy a pre-training coffee. Registration opens 15 minutes before the start of the course.
Training material, and morning and afternoon tea will be provided. Please bring your own lunch.
