    SEMICOLONS

    What is a semicolon?

The semicolon (;) is a punctuation mark used to connectindependent clauses and show a closer relationship than aperiod does.

Semicolons are followed by a lower case letter; they are strong

punctuation marks. Semicolons are used in three places: Between two sentences that are closely connected in

    idea.

Before conjunctive adverbs and some transition phraseswhen they are followed by an independent clause.

Between items in a series when the items themselvescontain commas.
