Class 1 Spring Term MUSIC This term we will be combining sounds musically and using instruments with increasing accuracy, control and expression. HOW YOU CAN HELP Each half-term your child will bring home two spelling lists. One is the statutory spelling list for their age group- ‘Word of the Day’ and a list of word work spellings. Each Friday they will have a spelling test based on word work . Please encourage them to learn their spellings. Home learning will be usually handed out on Thursdays to be returned to school the following week. Pupils should continue to learn times tables and EVERY child should read regularly. SCIENCE This term we will focus on Electricity and Light. Pupils will build on their current understanding of what electricity is and construct a range of circuits. They will recognise some conductors and insulators. We will investigate how light travels and how it reflects. DESIGN TECHNOLOGY Cooking and nutrition Understand seasonality Understand healthy diet We will prepare and cook savoury dishes PERSONAL, SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT This term we will be setting goals and targets for ourselves, finding out about financial capability and working together to develop and improve our school grounds. ICT Our focus this term will be Data Handling linked to our topic. We will also continue to develop our programming skills through ‘Scratch’ and K’nex. MATHS This term we will be covering: Number and Place value Addition and subtraction Multiplication and division Measurement Ratio and proportion We will also be covering Data Handling through ICT and topic. LITERACY The first half –term we will be studying the book ‘Skellig’ by David Almond. We will write in a range of genres including diary writing, stories with discussion and persuasive reports. Second half term we will focus on non-fiction writing linked to our geography topic focusing on Cornwall, as well as look at some traditional Cornish tales. We will continue to have a ‘Word of the Day’ every morning and word work will be delivered three times a week with a spelling test on Fridays. Focus study on Cornwall MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGE- FRENCH This term we will continue to extend our knowledge of French through games, songs, stories and interactive activities with appropriate extension for the more able learners. Our main areas of vocabulary focus are- colour, pets, days of the week, food and ” The Hungry Caterpillar.” PE This term pupils will take part in Swimming proficiency Dance for health and fitness Play competitive games and apply the basic principles in attacking and defending
