Following Jesus

Means that we become a part of His Body (I Corinthians 12:12ff) and members of His Family (John 1:12; Romans 8:16)

Means obeying Him (Matthew 7:21; John 14:15)

Means loving as He loved (John 13:33-34; Matthew 22:37-39; Romans 12:9; I John 2:15-17)

Following Jesus

Results in a life of eternal purpose (John 10:10)

Results in eternal life in the presence of God (John 3:16; I John 2:17; I John 2:25; Titus 1:1-3)

Baptism

We practice “Immersion” because the Greek word for baptism means “to immerse;”

OUR ordinance of baptism is rooted in the events of Matthew 3:13ff, when Jesus was baptized by John;

Baptism

Jesus was baptized as an act of solidarity with us. He identified with the sinners He came to save;

When we are baptized, we stand in solidarity with Jesus, identifying with Him;

Why Be Baptized?

It follows the example of Jesus; Matthew 3:13

It is in obedience to His command; Matthew 28:19

It is a public profession of new life in Christ; Romans 6:4-5

How Do I “Grow” as a Follower of Jesus?

Read, study, hear, and apply the Bible. It is God’s word to us; 2 Timothy 2:15

Prayer is our verbal communication with God; I Thessalonians 5:17

Be part of a Community; Hebrews 10:24ff

Tell Others; Acts 1:8

The Lord’s Supper

Is a commemoration of Jesus’ death; I Corinthians 11:24-27

is a Divine Command; Luke 22:19

is a blessed privilege, a gift of grace;

is a necessary memorial reminding us of the cost of our redemption;

The Lord’s Supper

is a willing testimony, giving us opportunity to testify our identification with Jesus;

is a humbling confession, an admission that we cannot save ourselves;

is an act of faith, looking forward to the 2nd coming of Jesus;

is a wary warning to never, ever take this memorial observance lightly;
