Exploring British historyThis Summer School focuses on Britain through the ages. Through a series of keynote lectures delivered by leading academics from the University of York, you will explore the history and culture of Britain. In-depth discussions will allow you to further develop key themes, with specific reference to the historically significant city of York.

York and the UniversityYork’s history can be traced back nearly 2000 years, from its foundation by the Romans in 71AD to its present day role as a top international tourist destination. Nowadays, it is a busy cultural city with a year-round programme of events.

Close to the city centre and situated on a landscaped lakeside campus, the University of York provides an ideal environment for study.

Broadening your cultural horizonsThe programme will also help you to develop your cross-cultural awareness by comparing the influences and legacies of different historical periods on British culture.

Trips and excursionsThe programme will include day and weekend trips to places of local and historical interest at no extra cost. These could include cities such as Edinburgh, London and Liverpool, or attractions such as Hadrian’s Wall, Fountain’s Abbey and Castle Howard.
