After fashion weeks for prêt, couture and menswear, another kind of a fashion week is on the cards – for the mini fashionistas. For the first time in India, a fashion week for kids is being planned, and if the organisers are to be believed, it may well be the first one in Asia.
The India Kids Fashion Week will be held in Mumbai on January 11 and 12, 2012, and several designers have confirmed attendance. Besides kidswear by Indian designers, there will also be fashion shows by big kidswear brands. DT has learnt that among the Mumbai designers, Rocky S and Nishka Lulla are expected to participate, and at least a dozen shows are planned. The Retailers Association of India (RAI) too, have become associated with the concept.
Manoj Mahla, director of IKFW, told us that it’s the growing market for kidswearthat compelled him to think of a concept like this almost a year ago. He said, “We think it is the first time something like this is being done in Asia. The kidswearmarket is big in India but when we started working on the concept a year ago, we assumed that more brands would be interested in this as compared to designers. So we approached RAI instead of FDCI But we are still open to FDCI designersSo, we approached RAI instead of FDCI. But we are still open to FDCI designers participating. We have the Delhi brand Kidology confirmed as a participant, and they have kidswear designs by Malini Ramani, Namrata Joshipura, Nandita Basu, etc. But, we want to restrict the number of shows since it’s only a twoday event and we want big intern at i o n a l brands to show too.”
