Federal Program of Skilled Workers

The candidate must be eighteen (18) years old or over; they must have a university diploma or trade. In addition, he/she must have a good understanding of English or French.

The skilled worker is chosen as a permanent resident depending on their level of education, their work experience, and their knowledge regarding the English and/or French language as well as other depending factors.

Provincial Program of Skilled Workers

For the provincial regime, it is necessary to know the French language; though, some knowledge of the English language as well may improve one’s chances of being accepted. It is also required that the applicant is eighteen (18) years of age or older and must have a university degree or a trade.

Temporary Workers—Quebec

As previously explained, the process to select qualified workers is based on numerous factors. One’s candidacy will be submitted to a selection grid where they will gain points per category. If the candidate obtains a sufficient score, he/she will be able to obtain the selection certificate. One’s educational background, linguistic knowledge of French and English, professional experience, age, number of stays in Quebec, relationship to a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Quebec, the characteristics of spouse or de facto spouse, ability of financial autonomy and the ability to adapt are all factors that will be taken into consideration by the government officials.

The employee must find an employer willing to hire them temporarily, a job that serves as the platform to obtain the Quebec Acceptance Certificate. Once the Acceptance Certificate is obtained, a work permit application shall be submitted to the Canadian Government. In order to be granted a work permit, the employee must be eligible under the Canada Occupational Health and Safety regulations.

Sponsorship

A Canadian citizen or permanent resident may sponsor their spouse/ de facto spouse, their ascendants (parents/grandparents) or their dependent children. It is necessary that the individual sponsoring their family have the financial means to do so throughout the duration of their commitment.

The sponsorship application will be scrutinized in three different phases:

1. Evaluation of the sponsor by the Canadian Government.

2. Undertaking to sponsor a family member by the Quebec Government and Quebec Selection Certificate.

3. Application for permanent residence of the sponsored person with the Canadian Government.

Refugees

Refugees are people who have reasonable grounds to fear persecution in their native country due either to their race, religion, nationality, political opinion and/or association to a particular social group.

Canada offers protection to refugees who currently reside outside of Canada or people who are current temporary residents and who fear persecution upon return to their home country.

BUSINESS PEOPLE:

1. Investors

The objective of the immigration program for investors is to encourage businesspeople to invest $800 000 in the Canadian economy.

In order to do so, the investor needs to satisfy the following conditions:

1. Investor must posses a minimum of two (2) years experience in the management of a company.

2. Investor must have alone or with his spouse, net assets of at least $1,600,000 that have been legally obtained.

3. Investor must be willing to invest at least $800,000.

2. Entrepreneurs

The objective of the immigration program for entrepreneurs is to attract experienced businesspeople that would contribute to the development of the Canadian economy and would help create jobs in Canada.

In order to do so, the entrepreneur must fulfill the following conditions:

1. Two (2) years experience in business,

2. The entrepreneur must have alone or with his spouse, a net assets of at least $300 000 that have been legally obtained.

3. Investor must be willing to invest at least $100,000.

4. Other factors will be taken into account such as: age, language abilities, nature and duration of your education.

3. Self-Employed Workers

The self-employed immigration program strives to find immigrants that have the capacity to create their own employment in Canada. The self-employed worker must:

1. Come to Quebec to practice a profession or trade on his own account.

2. The Worker must have alone or with his spouse, a net assets of at least $100 000 that have been legally obtained.

3. Have at least two years of experience as a self-employed worker in the profession or trade he plans to practice in Quebec.

4. Other factors will be taken into account such as: age, language abilities, nature and duration of your education.

Citizenship

In order for one to obtain their Canadian citizenship, they must:

-­‐ be an adult (18 years old or over) -­‐ be a permanent resident of Canada -­‐ must have lived in Canada for at least 730 days within the last fiver years -­‐ be able to communicate in English or French -­‐ have some knowledge about Canada and be aware of the rights and responsibilities

related to Canadian citizenship.

It is important to note that one may not become a Canadian citizen if:

-­‐ he/ she is under a removal order, instructed by Canadian officials to leave Canada -­‐ he/she wass accused of having committed an indictable offense or an infraction under the

Citizenship Act -­‐ he/she was convicted of an indictable offense or an infraction under the Citizenship Act

within the last three years preceding their application.
