_Guy Debord,
A sociedade do espectáculo

was a series of lectures organized by philosophical thninktank Global Vernunft which took place during October 2000 at Amsterdam exhibition space De Appel. Experimental Jetset were asked to participate in one these evenings, titles «Experience & Economy». Instead of speaking, they handed out a manifesto written specially for the occasion, and simultaneously showed a movie that was so boring, the audience was forced to actually read the text.In thei slightly apocalyptic worldview, we are moving towards a world where «objects» are increasingly separated from their «images»; a catastrophic shift from presentations/production to representation/reproduction.

Here, they demonstrated a breadth of reference, an economical subtlety of thought and a refreshing willingness to acknowledge and contest the “false images and representations” of contemporary visual culture that so many designers don’t even seem to notice, let alone worry about. They apologised for being naïve – this is often their strategy – but the brief text was an unusually knowing expression of intent._Since then, they have made a series of statements, which are consistently well argued.
_Rick Poynor,Notes on Experimental Jetsetin Designobserver.com

Our minds are polluted by an
overwhelming propaganda
assault that colors our beliefs,
desires and perception of
reality. This brings us back to
the concept of satori.
Breaking out of the
consumer mindscape takes
a fundamental shift of
perspective, an epiphany, after
which everything is seen with
new eyes.
