Dear Guest, The project partners of the innovative regional Tourism Development Programme ‘5 Stagecoaches’ would like to extend a welcome to you in our Slovenian/Hungarian border region. The aim of our project, which has been grant-aided within the framework of the Slovenia-Hungary Cross-border Cooperation Programme 2007-2013, is to promote tourism in the region. Therefore, 4 project partners on each side of the border of Hungary and Slovenia have joined their forces, i.e. the councils of the communities Nagyrécse, Magyarszerdahely and Kerkaszentkirály and the Nagykanizsa Campus of Pannon University, respectively as well as the Tourist Information Bureaus in the communities Dobronak, Moravske Toplice and Radenci and the Prlekija Development Agency, respectively. Following the elaboration of the marketing and brand strategy as well as service standards, the Tourism Product Development and Innovation Centre of Nagyrécse will be responsible for planning the common brand, introducing the tourist card ‘5 Stagecoaches’, promoting the GPS-based treasure hunt (geocaching) and the photo safari as well as arrangements for the tourism communication of the region. 21 tourism objects, i.e. picnic areas for tourists on horseback and hikers, viewpoints and playgrounds, have been set up.Event packages, focussing on interesting experiences, have been elaborated. If you are longing for adrenaline and true relief, the river Mur is the right place for you. This canoe tour is the right experience for those who are fond of true water adventures and do not shrink back from a tour taking several days. The excursion starts in Radenci where much value is attached to an active lifestyle. The route leads along Veržej, Gornja Bistrica and Petišovci, then Muraszemenye and Kerkaszentkirály on the Hungarian side, and again Muraszemenye and Letenye on the unrestrained Mur. Finally, we touch land in Molnári and finish the tour.

Water

Wander through the most beautiful man-made religious memorial places in the Mur region and get acquainted with the religious memorial places and legends of the Slovenians. The first station is Dobronak where in addition to the St. Jacob Church guests should also visit the energy spots to be found next to the deservedly renowned St. Vitus Chapel. The parish church in the centre of Moravske Toplice is well worth visiting just as well as the several hundred years old church in Martjanci and the special round church in Selo.

As the light breeze touches your face while you are climbing up to reach the castle peaks, as the mysterious farness unfolds itself before you while you are breathing the fresh air at the top of the viewpoints, as you become spiritualized in the holy places of the confession, you will feel that your sorrows and troubles fly away.

In the centre of the picturesque place Felsőrajk you can enjoy the view of the wooden castle. Then, you can get acquainted with Hungarian domestic animals in the animal park of Kerecseny, the dead-end street village hiding in the valley. At the same time, you can taste cheeses of this place and delicacies baked in the oven. Take a light walk in Magyarszerdahely, the place surrounded by vineyards. You can enjoy the fine prospect to Little Lake Balaton from the viewpoint, and take a rest with your horses in the picnic area for hikers and tourists on horseback. You can get acquainted with the traditions of the ancient country life in the Márfi House. The Old Country Tavern offers culinary delights and accommodation. The route ends in Nagyrécse by visiting the renovated Inkey Mansion and the sights of the village.

If you are not sure where your head is and you need some rest, head towards Nature. Put on your hiking boots or get on your bike and arm yourself with the energy of the Earth. A walk through the green forests, on the sweet-smelling meadows and along the babbling brooks will set your mind at rest. After a picnic, stretch yourself out on the travelling rug and inhale the sweet smell of fresh grass, while you are gazing at the sky. This will definitely help you to let yourself go.


During the walking tour from Radenci to Mala Polana, you can get acquainted with interesting wetland habitats and areas of a rich flora and fauna and taste the sweet wines of the famous vineyards of Ljutomer at the same time. The mineral spring of Radenci, which you should definitely visit, is the most important scenic spot in the town and the region just as well as the wetland habitat in Ivanjkovci with its wonderful chestnut-trees. In Ljutomer, you can visit the famous racecourse and try the potter’s craft at the Žuman pottery. You should also drop into the renowned Babič Mill, which has been grinding on the Mur, and the Museum of Apiculture where you can also taste honey. Pop into one or two wine-shops along the wine route of the region as well. At the end of the tour you arrive in Mala Polana where you will be filled with admiration of the life of rare aquatic birds of the region you can watch along an educational trail in the forest, the alder forest full of the special fritillaries and the unique floating mill as well.

Start with the disclosure of underground treasures in Bázakerettye where one of the region’s most important landscape aesthetic assets and scenic spots, the Arboretum of Budafa, will fill you with wonder. Then, the road leads to Lispeszentadorján where you can wake memories of a bygone world next to the ruins of the one-time Monastery of the Order of St. Paul. Then, make an excursion in one of the country’s oldest forests, the ancient beech-wood in Kiscsehi. You can have a breather in the picnic park of Szentmargitfalva. Then, you can enjoy an experience in close touch with Nature in Csörnyeföld if you taste the delicious wines of the region. Then, you can pop into the Barn of the Mur Region lying along the fish-pond and the Krka in Kerkaszentkirály. In Tormafölde, you can roam about in the ancient beech-wood of Vétyem; then you will have a wonderful experience if you visit the Szapáry Mansion and the water-mill in Szécsisziget. After visiting the special memorial places of the oil industry in Lovászi you can have a rest on the shore of the Europe Lake in Tornyiszentmiklós. If you feel like it, you can head towards Slovenia from the place called Pince. Do not stop before you reach picturesque Dobronak where you can pick up again on the energy spots in the forest surrounding the Lake of Bakónak. The presence of 26 different healing spots has been established in the tranquillity of the forest, next to the St. Vitus Chapel.

After visiting the Makovec Church and the collection of local history as well as the Fedák Mansion, lovers of line-fishing can relax at the quarry pond in Tótszerdahely. On the way towards the border, the Andrássy Mansion and its beautiful park are waiting for you in Letenye. A wonderful library, where an opportunity for GPS-based treasure hunt is provided, can also be found here. Then,

you can enjoy pampering at Thermae Letenye. You take a direction towards picturesque Valkonya where first you can get

acquainted with the garden of the rest-house Pál Rockenbauer, which also provides

accommodation, and the denizens of the local animal farm. After this, the route leads to the

Szuloki Spring where you can go on a GPS-based treasure hunt again. From Valkonya, the tour route

of blue marking leads as far as Kistolmács. From here, take a direction towards Bázakerettye where first

you should roam about in the Arboretum of Budafa to experience an adventure in close touch with Nature. Then,

visit the Museum and Exhibition of the Oil Industry and wander about in the ancient beech-wood of Vétyem, between Kiscsehi and

Tormaföld, while you visit Maróci Lake en route to enjoy recreation and line-fishing. Then, you can refresh yourself at Thermae Bázakerettye. In the same place you find the Shop of Goods and Special Products from Zala where you may have your choice among unique craftsmanship products. The Events Of-fice Budafaluus in Bázakerettye offers innumerable interesting event options. By the narrow gauge railway you can travel from Bázakerettye to the military bunkers in Páka. Bicycles can also be transported by the narrow gauge railway. No matter if you take a direction towards Kistolmács on the tour route marked with the blue cross or by any other vehicle of transport, you can stop on the way at the Kozár Spring, have a dip in the crystal-clear water of the lake in Kistolmács and taste the local food specialities or you can even travel on by the narrow gauge railway through mysterious forests towards Csömödér. You can get acquainted with two ancient crafts and several traditional dishes which are offering a culinary delight. The PANNart, the House of Craftsmanship, can be found in Dobronak where you can have a look at and try the handicrafts which are typical of the region. After this, you can visit the George Haus in Dobronak and the Ferenc Deák Memorial Room in Žitkovci. Have a look at the mill in Berkovci which evokes the days of yore. Then, pop into the Potters’ Village and the Outdoor Museum in Filovci.

Taste the layer cake, kohlrabi with meat, strudel, cornmeal mush, pumpkin-seed oil as well as the typical buckwheat mush and buckwheat sausage.
