In the know......The Urals, forming a 1,500 km border betweenEurope and Asia.Siberia lies entirely in Asia, and its native peoples are Asiatic it was the Russians who came assettlers. There are over 30 native Asiaticlanguages still spoken in Siberia to this day.Lake Baikal is the world’s largest, and has morestatistics than any other lake.In WW2 Stalin had an idea to invade Japan – bytunnel. He gave orders to build tunnels fortroop trains from the Russian mainland, viaSakhalin Island, to Japan. It’s estimated over30,000 men– mostly convict labour – died onthe project, which never got further than 8km.On the day Stalin died the workers killed theirguards and escaped.

Most visitors to Russia are required to obtaina visa prior to departure.Please check yournationalities visa requirements in advanceof your planned travel dates.Visa processing times can be up to;Russia 20 Working Days

However fast track processing is possible. Due to the support documents required bythe Embassy of Russia (which we obtain),you will need to book your trip beforestarting to obtain visas.For full information regarding visas, pleaserefer to our web site.

Photocopy your passport including the visasissued pages, airline tickets and insurancepolicies. Your passport must be valid for at least sixmonths past the end of your travel dates.Complementary tea and coffee is providedin your cabin.

Casual clothing is usually worn on the train,including at mealtimes. Sturdy, comfortableshoes for the excursions. During boat rides, alight jacket or sweater is advisable. (also forrestaurants with strong air-conditioning). Andthose brave enough to take a dip in Lake Baikalshouldn’t forget to bring along their swimsuits.Also, remember to bring something to coveryour head to protect against the sun and towear in Orthodox churches.

Another perspective on the Buryats’culture is a colorful and spectacular folkloreprogram that you will enjoy here. DAY 07Standing on the shores of Lake Baikal, youcan’t help being awestruck with admirationby the wonder created by nature itself. It isthe deepest Lake in the world that containsthe fifth part of the Earth’s fresh water. Afterbreakfast, board a motor ship to sail on thewaters of the Baikal to the village ofListvyanka. Here you will visit the uniquemuseum dedicated to the flora and fauna ofthe Lake. Not to be missed is theobservation point at the Cherssky Stonewith a stunning view on the Lake and theAngara river. After a visit to a local market,the journey continues along the originalroute of the Trans-Siberian Railway forseveral hours directly along the shore ofLake Baikal. DAY 08The train arrives today in Irkutsk, one of thelargest cities in Siberia. This city haspreserved quite a few of historical buildingsand monuments. During the city tour youwill see picturesque wooden houses, visitthe Decembrists’ House that will unfold thestory of failed uprising of Russian aristocracywho were exiled to this town. After lunch donot miss the opportunity to visit an open-airmuseum located in the picturesque place ofthe river bank of Angara. This uniquemuseum will tell you about the daily life ofthe people in this region in the past. DAY 09Imperial Russia Train pulls through Siberia.Today enjoy your stay on board to reflect oncities you have already visited. You maywant to spend your time having a drink atthe bar with your fellow travelers, or youmight stay in your cabin and follow thechanging scenery. Wooden houses, birchforests and if lucky enough some sun raysover mountain landscapes will greet you.Onboard staff will invite you for a talk onTrans-Siberian Railway. Each cabin offers 1lower and 1 upper bed, a table at thewindow, a chair opposite the beds, asmall wardrobe and storage space.Euro-Sockets for 220 V are in eachcabin, capable for razors, loadingmobile phones, cameras andnotebooks. The cars are airconditioned (individual control). Theair condition operates only during thetime the train is moving. Only 5 VIPsleeping cars on board and may bebooked for double or single use.

Business ClassBUSINESS CLASS sleeping cars offerslightly smaller cabins than on VIPclass. BUSINESS CLASS cabins have a privatetoilet, wash basin and “wet-room” styleshower en suite.
