Why?• Polluted stormwater runoff from urban areas is one
of the top sources of water pollution
• The low impact development (LID) approach originated in Maryland and is focused on reducing these impacts
• Rain gardens are one type of LID practice, along with pervious pavements and green roofs
The numbers:• Rain garden app has over 6,500 downloads• Rain garden app now includes soil, plant and sizing
data for 21 states
• LID atlas app has just been completed, will be publicized in upcoming weeks• http://lidmap.uconn.edu
