Foreword

Welcome to Energy Week 2014. It is a great pleasure to welcome participants and guests of the Energy Week 2014. The Energy Week brings together stakeholders from Brunei Darussalam and beyond, to exchange ideas and experiences, and to build alliances towards a sustainable energy future for Brunei Darussalam. With ‘Sustainable Energy for Brunei Darussalam’s Prosperity’ as the theme of this year’s Energy Week, this is where we will showcase our commitment and contribution in making a change for a greener, cleaner world by moving forward in areas of Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EEC) and Renewable Energy (RE). The main highlight of the week is the Launching of the Energy White Paper and Brunei Oil and Gas book officiated by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. The Energy White Paper provides a review of Brunei Darussalam’s future energy sector development towards Vision 2035, incorporating main strategies toward strengthening and growing the upstream and downstream oil and gas, ensuring security, reliability and efficient supply & use of energy and to maximise economic spin-offs from our oil and gas industry. Throughout the week, there will be international conference, seminar, forum and youth dialogue, exhibitions as well as networking events which offers a unique platform to interact and discuss on prevailing energy technologies and initiatives.

The Brunei National Energy Research Institute (BNERI) International Annual Conference will provide a comprehensive view of the Global Energy Scene from leading experts and authorities from America, Europe, and Asia while the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) - BNERI Seminar will facilitate discussions at various phases of market integration and levels of renewable energy technology deployment. More than 300 youths are expected to join the Youth Energy Dialogue to discuss their ideas and vision in order to achieve a continuous sustainable energy for Brunei Darussalam’s prosperity. In line with the priority on Local Business Development (LBD) component in oil and gas, the LBD Forum hopes to stimulate thinking and dialogue on challenges and practical learnings to capture key enablers as well as critical success factors towards maximising local content. Meanwhile, the Energy Exhibition provides an interactive platform to network with over 100 local and international exhibitors including school Energy Clubs and higher institutions showcasing the latest green technologies, appliances and products in the field of Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EEC) and Renewable Energy (RE). Stressing the importance of bringing together employers from different industries, institutions and the youth, the Energy Industry Competency Framework (EICF), Brunei Maritime Academy (BMA), Career and Job Fair offer unparalleled prospects for students and jobseekers on wide range of career and employment opportunities. Last but not least, thank you for participating in the Energy Week 2014. Objectives of EICF

The Energy Industry Competency Framework (EICF),

established in July 2013, is a joint collaboration

between the Energy Department at the Prime

Minister Office (EDPMO), the Ministry of Education

(MOE) and the energy industry.

The Discover Oil & Gas area

showcases a number of interactive

displays and exhibits suitable for all

ages. Students may also take the

advantage of the EICF e-registration

counters that provides easy-to-use

online registration for the vocational

programs.

It is hoped that the close

cooperation that has led to this Fair

will lead to beneficial opportunities

for our youth, in line with the Titah

of His Majesty and Yang Di-Pertuan

of Brunei Darussalam for the

country to produce quality human

resources and to generate

employment opportunities for the

locals.

In conjunction with the

Energy Week 2014, the Energy

Industry Competency Fair aims to

promote careers in oil and gas

industry as well as share with the

public the vocational programs

available to join the industry. This is

one of the many on-going initiatives

under the EICF to increase the

required expertise for critical

occupations in the industry.

The EICF section of the Exhibition

Hall are divided via different

networks such as engineering,

construction and maintenance,

logistic and marine, well engineering

services and drilling and other

general service companies.

EICF Study Programmes


In order to meet the immediate demand

of the maritime industries, the Brunei

Maritime Academy targets to enrol

students for programmes on Deck

Rating, Engine Rating, Diploma in

Marine Engineering and Nautical Studies

as well as bridging programmes for

cooks and stewards. The success of BMA

leverages on the strong collaboration

and support from the marine industries

especially in providing sea-time training

for the students.

Brunei Maritime Academy (BMA) is one of the centres of excellence under the

new system, operating under the purview of the Ministry of Education and

supported by the Energy Department at the Prime Minister’s Office (EDPMO) and

the Ministry of Communication (MOC). One of the aims of the academy is to

produce local Bruneians as maritime professionals and seafarers approved and

recognized by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) to work in the

maritime industry of Brunei Darussalam.

The objective of the BMA Exhibition is to promote the programs

offered by BMA thus encouraging local participation in the high in-demand

Maritime industry. BMA will be showcasing Marine programs, career paths

and interactive exhibits.

The BMA Pavilion hopes to share with the visitors on various job descriptions

such as seafarers, career path for both Ratings and Officers (NCV) and

qualification as seafarers (NCV) for both Deck and Engine Ratings as well as

Deck and Engine Officer.

Visitors can look forward to the training facilities, apprenticeship program

and the Computer Based training by Singapore Maritime Academy. The first

batch of BMA will enrol in April 2014 followed by another group in July

and October 2014.

Career and Job Fair


The Career & Job Fair is a well established annual event that has been

running since 2011, with the main objective to promote local employment

opportunities within Oil &Gas industry in Brunei Darussalam and often attractive

thousands of jobseekers.

The event will bring together students, graduates, jobseeker and leading

recruiters from the oil and gas industry. Besides guiding jobseekers on the most

effective CV writing techniques, the Career & Job Fair will also offer potential

employers the opportunity to get closer to the most relevant talent that matches

their needs.

Aimed at empowering students and graduates to take charge of their own

future, the event provides youth with the ideal environment to understand their

prospects in the job market in terms of skill requirement, training and

development and other opportunities.

Career and Job Fair

This year, the Job Fair brings together more

than 50 participating companies with more

than 1000 vacancies ranging from technical and

non technical positions. The Fair will also

feature the career development paths for

various jobs skill pool in the industry.

Other activities include CV Writing Clinic,

walk-in interview sessions and live

demonstrations. Similar to the EICF, the

jobseekers will also have its own dedicated

e-registration area.

Since the first Job Fair in 2011, local

recruitment has been well above target by

about 50% with 3,894 locals recruited by the

end of 2012 against a target of 3,600. Since the

latest Job Fair in November 2013 up to March

2014, there has been 447 recruitments and is

targeted to reach 3,000 recruitments by the

end of the year.

The Energy Department at the Prime Minister’s

Office (EDPMO) will continue to work together

with the oil and gas industry players to achieve

the aspiration of creating at least 50,000 em-

ployment opportunities and producing 5,000

professional Bruneians and 35,000 skilled and

semiskilled workers in the energy sector by

The Energy Week logo reflects the abundant natural energy source of Brunei Darussalam. The general shape of the sign is an oil drop, which symbolizes Brunei Darussalam’s main source of energy. Within the logo, the various elements signifies the oil and gas, power, renewable energy, waste to energy as well as energy savings. The yellow line, similar to the central part of a leaf, acts as a linkage for all the various elements within the logo. The distinctive colours - black, orange, green, blue and yellow marks the dynamic colour of energy in all forms. Meanwhile, the forest in the background represents the unspoiled nature of Brunei Darussalam.
