The German American Trade Association (GATA) is a not-for-profit organization that was formed in 2003 by a group of German Industry Associations. GATA’s objective is to provide comprehensive risk management protection for German-Speaking companies with existing U.S. business and to facilitate entry to the U.S. market for newcomers.

In terms of corporate risk management GATA offers Executive Management Meetings (EMMs) four times a year in Germany and once in the U.S., aimed at senior management with existing knowledge of the topics covered. These top-level events provide practical, hands-on updates on recent developments and offer guidance regarding the internal implementation of risk management measures and compliance in the U.S. The EMMs are held the day after the „U.S. Entry Meetings“, which are aimed at Companies considering a North-American engagement without being there yet.

We recommend that the EMMs are being attended with a certain delay after the U.S. Entry Meetings because their content is based on the agenda of the U.S. Entry Meetings. Therefore, repetitions in some areas are unavoidable.

In particular, after setting up a company in the U.S. all managers involved in the U.S. business should visit the Executive Management Meetings (EMM) to be up-to-date on all relevant U.S. issues.

The Executive Management Meetings are full day events and are complemented by comprehensive course material in English and German. All speakers have years of experience in cross-border transactions. For the important issues of liability and corporate risk management, specialized German-Speaking attorneys from New York are presenting the relevant topics.

The meetings are held in German, only the Executive Management Meeting in New York is in English. Dress code throughout the meetings is formal business attire.
