Effective January 2014

1 Oil sands production in alberta will increase steadily over the next two decades, as will project development investment. Production

from the oil sands will grow to 2.1 million BPD in 2015 and 2.9 million BPD by 2020. Investments in expansion and new projects are expected to average $10 billion a year for decades to come.

2 Significant capital investment in the oil sands. Spending is expected to come in at more than $23 billion in 2013.

3Oil sands developments make significant annual MrO investments. MRO expenditures were $19.8 billion in 2012 and are expected to be

more than $1.4 trillion by 2046.

4 energy developers are hungry for ways to reduce costs. Oil sands and conventional oil and gas developments are notorious for cost

escalation. Companies supplying products, Innovation capabilities or services that will help reduce costs will see a great opportunity marketing to energy developers.

5 environmental issues spell opportunity. The energy industry produces much of Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions during

production processes. Governments are investing in the development of carbon capture and sequestering technologies: there are opportunities to sell environmental, innovative or energy efficient products and services directly to energy developers and their suppliers.

6There’s more to alberta than energy. Manufacturing, employs 138,500 Albertans (who make chemical, primary and fabricated metals,

machinery, food and wood products), contributes over 6% to the province’s GDP.

7alberta energy companies are doing significant business with Ontario companies. The oil sands industry in Alberta is expected

to purchase $36 billion worth of goods and services from companies in Ontario over the next 25 years, and $117 from all provinces.

8 There’s business to do in Saskatchewan, too. Economic output will grow 2.7% in 2014. Manufacturing provides 7.7% of the province’s

GDP. Mining and petroleum contributes 13%.

9BC manufacturing isn’t all connected to the resource sector. BC’s manufacturing also involves building ships and aircraft parts, fibreoptic

cables and plastics, furniture, machinery, clothing, health care products, computers and other electronics. And BC is going after the growing renewable energy market (solar, wind, alternate fuels) attracting significant manufacturing investment.

10Manufacturing is big in Manitoba. It’s the province’s largest industry sector contributing 11% to its GDP making food, transportation

equipment, machinery, chemical and wood production.
