S iddhattha Gautama was born into the family of a ruling clan about 2,500 years ago. His father

was the chief of this clan which lived in northern India close to the border of what is now Nepal. As the only son of the chief, he lived a life of ease and luxury surrounded by riches and women. However, even as a youth he realized that he would get no lasting satisfaction from such a lifestyle.

LIFE OF BUDDHA

What is Bhawna? (Meditation)Bhavana means the practice of 'Mind Cultivation' or simply meditation. Meditation can be said to purify

the mind by making it easier to develop Generosity and Compassion, and then to finally acquire Wisdom.

Buddhist meditation is usually classified into two types - Vipassana or Insight meditation, and Samatha or Concentration meditation. There are many forms of Samatha meditation, and Metta or Loving-Kindness meditation is one of its more widely practiced forms. All these types of meditation have their benefits.

Sachin just minds his own business and uses his maximum time in improving his skills and cricket acumen. Sticking in political gambits consumes too much energy of a player and it affects the performance. He keeps away from dirty politics and concentrates on his performance.

he history of human civilization is entwined with the history of the ways we have learned to manipulate water resources. The earliest agricultural communities emerged where crops could be cultivated with dependable rainfall and perennial rivers. Simple irrigation canals permitted greater crop production and longer growing seasons in dry areas. Five thousand years ago settlements in the Indus Valley were built with pipes for water supply and ditches for wastewater. Athens and Pompeii, like most Greco-Roman towns of their time, maintained elaborate systems for water supply and drainage.

WHY WE ARE SAD ?End Of Sorrow

J. Krishnamurti Speaks :

ge nq%[kh D;ksa gSa % nq[k fuokj.k dk mik;

One of our major problems, probably the

only problem, is sorrow. Man has tried through every form to resolve, to end sorrow; he has tried to escape from it, he has worshipped it, he has given many explanations. But man, endlessly, from the moment he is born until he dies, lives in this sorrow, in this grief. It seems to me that unless one resolves that issue not verbally, not by ideas or by explanations, but actually by stepping out of the stream of this incessant sorrow, one's problems will multiply.

You may be very rich, you may have power, position, prestige, status, and you may be very cleaver, you may have all the brains in the world, with great information, but, I am afraid, all those things are not going to resolve the human demands, the human urgency of resolving one of the most fundamental questions, which is sorrow. Because with the ending of sorrow is the beginning of wisdom. Wisdom not cunningness, not knowledge, not ideologies comes only with the ending of sorrow; and without wisdom we cannot solve our human problem, not only outwardly, but also inwardly.

Man, as one observes historically and also from one's own life or one's own everyday activity, is caught in the principle of pleasure and sorrow. We are guided by pleasure. Most of us want pleasure only, and we are pursuing it most subtly. When we seek truth

YOGA NIDRA

Nidra means “sleep.” The prefix in

indicates restraint, downwards motion, and the

collection of things spread out. When we sleep we

settle down, draw the mind away from the senses,

and rest our focus inside. Yoga Nidra sleep

Hanuman Ashtakam, popularly

known as Sankat Mochan, portrays the inspiring glory of Sri Hanuman as the eliminator of obstacles and suffering. In earlier discourses, we have seen how Goswami Tulsidas's sublime composition, Sri Hanuman Chalisa, symbolizes love, devotion and faith. By remembering and chanting these a we-inspiring verses, one can unlock the secrets of success. Though not as well known as the forty verses of Sri Hanuman Chalisa, the eight verses of Sankat Mochan are highly reflective and lyrical. Sant Tulsidas, a saint of deep knowledge and wisdom, has encapsulated profound Vedantic truths in these verses, and shown the way to overcome all one's problems and reach permanent happiness. These beautiful verses not only help one to overcome the mundane problems of daily living, but provide a guiding light to spiritual seekers, pointing out all the requisite qualities needed for Realisation or attaining Supreme Bliss.

The word sankata means problems and mochan refers to one who liberates. Very often, in spite of all sincere endeavours, one feels totally inexperienced and helpless in facing and overcoming the problems in life and as long as one is besieged with difficulties, there can be no peace. Life's predicaments have a unique knack of hitting us where it hurts the most. In such desperate situations, there comes the crying need for some hope, some anchor, something to hold on to, while confronting such severe circumstances. At such times, other relatives or friends, who are stronger, more knowledgeable or influential, may be incapable of providing succour and strength, owing to their own limitations.

In almost every Indian home a lamp is lit day daily before the altar of the Lord. In some houses it is lit at dawn, in

some, twice a day at dawn and dusk and in a few it is maintained continuously (akhanda deepa). All auspicious functions and moments like daily worship, rituals and festivals and even many social occasions like inaugurations commence with the lighting of the lamp, which is often maintained right through the occasion.

A soft drink refers to a beverage which does not

contain alcohol. It is often carbonated and usually sweet. Colas, iced tea and fruit squashes are some of the beverages that fall in this category. The term 'soft' is used to contrast it to the term 'hard' which is used for alcoholic drinks.

Soft drinks have become a definite part of our lives. The market is flooded with various brands and flavors. We are spoiled for choice. Studies have shown that the consumption of soft drinks has greatly increased in the last twenty years.

Nutritional Value

Soft drinks contain no vitamins, minerals, protein, fiber or any other nutrients.

What they Contain

Soft drinks contain distilled water, carbon dioxide, sugar, preservatives, artificial flavoring

Distilled water

Distilled water makes up almost 90% of a soft drink. It is water that is so purified that it has no minerals left in it.

Carbon dioxide

Carbon dioxide is injected in to distilled water to give it that fizz that is so characteristic of soft drinks.

Sugar

A 325 ml can contains as much as 10 to 15 teaspoons of sugar.

Artificial sweeteners

Artificial sweeteners such as aspartame and saccharin are used in diet drinks.

Preservatives

Preservatives have to be added to soft drinks to prevent them from getting spoiled and to prolong their shelf life. The preservatives that are permitted are sodium benzoate and sulphur dioxide.

Sodium

Sodium is used in most soft drinks to give the drink stability and to keep its contents evenly distributed. Consuming too much sodium causes thickening of the arteries and various heart problems as well as high blood pressure.

Phosphoric Acid

Most soft drinks contain citric, phosphoric, malic or tartaric acids. These acids are used to preserve the sweetness of the drink. Phosphoric acid causes the calcium in the body to dissolve rapidly causing osteoporosis.

SOFT DRINKS

Spicy, soothing, and invigorating, ginger is something of a miracle. This rhizome has kapha balancing properties that have long been appreciated by ayurvedic practitioner. Recent studies have validated its most common use treating nausea. But ginger has many more facets : it believed to aid digestion, assuage rheumatoid arthritis, help clear ama (toxins), lower blood sugar, reduce cholesterol, and improve circulation. It is known in ayurveda as “the universal medicine.”

Every child comes with the message that God is not yet tired of Man.

HOW TO MAKE CHILD GENIUS

YOUR CHILD: A GIFT FROM GOD

But if you plant the seeds of education carefully, tend them tirelessly and nurture them endlessly, you will harvest a crop that will be invaluable you will nurture a genius!

HEADACHEPain in whole or part of head is

called as headache. From little dul l ache to severe pain interfering with sleep and work. This headache may be in one part of head may be infront or back or either of the sides. It commonly involve whole of the head. It is important to know from where it

st has started 1 , from back or from front from eyes or from ears. It also important to note problems in

other parts of head or body. Redness in eyes, pain in ear any constitutional features like flashes of light. It is also important to note that any recent development has occurred in the family like accidents or death.

The 12' Hour FastEveryday Ayurveda

According to ayurveda, the body is programmed to direct its energy to, ward cleansing and assimilation in the hours just before midnight, when agni (digestive free) is weakest. To support this process, ayurvedic physicians rec' ommend refraining from late'night snacks and going to bed around 10 p.m. By fasting for 12 hours every night between dinner and breakfast (7 p.m. to 7 a.m., for example) you free your body from the burdens of meal related digestion so it can con duct mental, emotional, and cellular cleansing in a more concentrated way.

Creative Curiosity.

Creative curiosity is the forerunner of creativity. To activate creativity in your child, encourage him ask questions about everything and anything. Allow him to strike out and explore new experiences for himself. This way, he will get new ideas.

Inspired Imagination

It breathers life and colour into it and adds an element of fun to everything. It's a make-believe world that vibrates with energy. It may sound silly or fanciful, but it has a serious and very practical side too. For example, a scientist first imagines a certain situation. Then he works on facts towards it. If one experiment fails, he has to use his imagination to dream of another way to approach that situation. It's the same in all professions.

Hawking has suggested that extraterrestrials are almost certain to exist but that instead of seeking them out, humanity should be doing all it can to avoid any contact. The suggestions come in a new documentary series in which Hawking, one of the world's leading scientists, will set out his latest thinking on some of the universe's greatest mysteries.

W hat can you do if you are mentally tired

and physically achy from sitting over textbooks or working at a computer? You wish you could take a thirty minute nap, but your schedule only allows for a short break before you need to finish your project or go on to yet another activity.

You could use that break to lie on the floor and practice gentle poses that rest your face and eyes. Do just a few repetitions of some poses or practice many repetitions of other poses with which you wish to linger. Experience the focused meditative quality that yoga can give you in a short time. Feel the tensions in your body and mind drift away. Then do a standing pose as a transition to focusing on your next activity.
