Swimming Carnival

Thank you to the parents and staff who were part of the organisation for our swimming carnival and

to the students who participated in the day. Again we had over 300 students walk down to Bradbury

Pool to compete in 25, 50, 100 metres or novelty events. Congratulations to all the swimmers that

qualified for the Zone Carnival on the 6 March. We look forward to seeing your results. Please see

facebook and webpage for more photos.

Congratulations to Mario in year 6 who did a presentation to over

100 people last week at Taronga Zoo. Mario has been picked to

participate in a Zoo Keeper program. We enjoy listening to his zoo

facts that he readily shares with his teachers and peers.

School gates

Just a reminder that the school gates, except the front entrance gate will be locked from 9.30am

and reopened at 2.30pm due to child safety. Gates will be opened earlier on assembly days.

P&C

The Annual General Meeting is on the Tuesday 10 March 9.15am. Nominations are now being called

for positions on the Bradbury Public School Parents and Community Association for 2020.

Anyone wishing to nominate a school community member for a Parents and Community Association

Executive position, should (after consultation with the person concerned) fill in the slip on the back

page, including the name of a seconder, and return it to the school office by 4.00pm Monday 9 March.

Nominations will only be taken from the floor, in the event of no written nominations having been

received.

All Executive positions on the Parents and Community Association will become vacant.

At last week’s meeting the issue was raised about people parking in kiss and drop zones and people

saving parking places. I have contacted council and received confirmation that they will be visiting the

school in the next few weeks.

Car park issue – Requesting your support

The school has worked with Work Health and Safety personnel to review our car parking situation.

A risk assessment was conducted around the safety of cars parking on school grounds. The

recommendation has been made that no parent parks on school grounds. The only cars/ taxis allowed

in the carpark are those who pick up and drop off students with additional needs. These vehicles

have been granted permission by the department of education. We urge that all parents and

community members support this request as student safety is a main concern.

Your guide to driving and parking safely near schools

The beginning and end of the school day are busy times for pedestrians and vehicles outside the

school. That’s why you need to take extra care in 40km/h school zones.

Park safely and legally, even if it means walking further to the school gate. Parking signs are planned

with children’s safety in mind.

Slow down to 40km/h in the school zone and stay aware of crossings.

Always park and turn legally around the school.

Never double park as it puts children at risk.

Manoeuvres such as U-turns and three-point turns are dangerous.

Never park in a bus zone or in the school bus bay.

Make sure your children use the Safety Door (rear footpath side door) to get in and out of the car.

At a supervised crossing, observe the directions of the school crossing supervisor.

Model safe and considerate behaviour for your child – they will learn from you.

Remember to always give way to pedestrians particularly when entering and leaving driveways. Don’t

park across the school driveway or the entrance to the school car park. It’s always a good idea to

use the drop off and pick up area suggested by your school. This will help keep all children as safe

as possible during the busiest times of the school day.

On Tuesday 18 February, over 300 students attended the Swimming Carnival at the Gordon

Fetterplace Aquatic Centre. Students participated in competitive races and novelty events. Even the

teachers hopped in the pool to have a go! Congratulations to all racers, you all demonstrated great

skill, enthusiasm and sportsmanship. All staff and community members expressed that all Bradbury

students demonstrated safe, respectful manners throughout the day, which was so wonderful to

see.

Students who qualified to represent our school at the Zone Swimming Carnival in a few weeks’ time,

will be notified shortly. All winners will be presented with their ribbons at the Swimming Carnival

Library News

Library has started for all grades and Kindergarten

start in Week 5, so ALL students should have a library

bag. Senior students may have a folder instead of a

bag. All 3-6 students should have their PRC recording

sheet in their library bag/folder. Students should be

recording ALL books they read on the PRC sheet even

if it's a book from home or it doesn't have a sticker.

Students can't enter the books onto the computer yet

as it is not open. They need to record all their books

on paper, ready for when we teach them how to enter,

later in March. Students must read 15 PRC listed

books and 5 choice books. They have until August to

do this. All students are encouraged to try to achieve

this goal. Why? The aim of the PRC is to help students

read a wider variety of book genres than they may

usually choose, this expands their reading ability.

So please encourage your child to participate as this forms part of their library and computer

lessons.

Temporary Foster Carers

Barnardos Australia is a leading, non-government organisation which provides foster care for children.

At present our agency urgently needs short term foster carers, due to an increase in the numbers of

referrals for children needing care in the South West Sydney region.

To meet this demand, we are seeking to recruit people from the local community to become temporary

foster carers for preschool and primary school aged children, for between six months to two years at a

time. As such, we have approached Bradbury Public School, who have kindly agreed to display some of

our promotional materials at your office.

If you think you might have room in your heart and home for a foster child, please feel free to call our

number or visit the website for more information. Alternatively, Barnardos currently have a space each

Tuesday [10am-2pm] at Campbelltown Arts Centre where a team member will be available for a face

to face discussion.

We look forward to speaking to you soon!
