1/2K

Students from 1/2K came to visit with some outstanding work this morning. They had written about what

it means to be a student at Bradbury Public School.

I was impressed with the vocabulary that they had used and the pride they felt about our school.

Swimming Carnival

For the first time in a while, Bradbury ran a swimming carnival which included novelty events. Over 300

students walked down to Bradbury pools to compete in 25, 50, 100 metre, races or novelty events. It was

fantastic watching the students share the team spirit of the houses and cheer on their colours. Well

done to all the swimmers that qualified for the Zone Carnival on the 8th of March. We look forward to

seeing your results.

West Tigers visit

On Tuesday, the NRL and two players from the West Tigers came to visit our school to talk about

bullying and everyone being different. It was great to see our students work with the players and get

some insight into the way the players train and work with each other. Students seemed to enjoy the visit

and look forward to seeing the two wingers score some tries in the season ahead.

Start Smart

Over the next four Mondays students will be participating in Start Smart workshops

delivered by the Commonwealth Bank. This program teaches students about financial

literacy, empowering them to make wise financial decisions for themselves. It’s never too

early to teach children the value of money.

The Primary program consists of six stages, each of which corresponds to a different level of learning.

The workshops are engaging as well as educational, featuring characters such as Captain Cash and Coach

Cash, who represents all the temptations to spend money needlessly.

Welcome back to the Library

It's been a busy start to the year with Kindergarten starting and PAT testing delaying the start to

formal library times but all should be underway as of next week. A reminder to students and parents

that ALL students require a bag or in 3-6 a folder will suffice to protect their library books from

damage and make for easy location. Water damage from drink bottles is common, as is page damage due

to being carelessly put into bags or under desks. Even students who leave books at school require a

folder as books left on desks are often misplaced. It is a requirement of borrowers to be responsible

for books in their care and to pay for any damaged or lost books. Let's try to do all we can to keep them

safe. Library borrowing is a great way to begin the training process of responsibility, remembering

which day, remembering to bring books on time, keeping book separate from home books, having a set

place for things.

The Premier's Reading Challenge begins again in March. Years 3-6 have to complete this by reading the

books themselves, unlike K-2 where we read them to the students. This is a new challenge for Yr 3. All

students will receive a copy of the recording sheet during Library next week. This is only a record and all

books will need to be entered on line to actually complete the challenge. Students are guided through

this process at school but encouragement from home allows students to see that you value reading too.

Please sign off on books your child has read. Why not ask a few questions about the book to see how

much understanding they have.

Looking forward to working together to develop a love of reading.

The school has purchased a whole lot of new readers for classrooms and Mrs Mayor and I are slowly

working on getting them processed for classrooms. If any parents, grandparents are available to contact

these books at home or in the HUB it would be greatly appreciated as this is the slowest part of the

process.

Happy reading.

FUNDRAISING WITH RETURN AND EARN Dear Parents and Carers, Last year Bradbury Public School partnered with Nepean Distributors to help fundraise using the NSW Container Deposit Scheme (CDS). We raised $170.82 for our school last year. This year we will be continuing our partnership with Nepean Distributors and will be collecting containers. Our collection bins are located near room 13 or you can bring the containers to your child’s classroom. We kindly ask that all children assist us by bringing 10 eligible containers to school with them each week where they will be collected and processed at the bulk collection point by Nepean Distributors. Nepean Distributors is NOT charging the school for this service all net funds will go directly towards assisting your child’s education in the form of new programs and equipment. A list of eligible containers can be found at www.returnandearn.org.au. We would also like to ask that NO glass containers be brought to school and that all containers are empty and milk containers (Flavoured and Up & Go) are washed out. Thank you for your ongoing support with this scheme. Mrs Thompson
