Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and Friends,
Congratulations to Nikiela Larcombe, who was the
recipient of the Terrific Kid achievement award presented by Louise Griffiths from the Kawanis Club last
week. Well done Nikiela!
Students who attended the Cottage By the Sea adventure are reported to have had a great time for the
week for a sea side holiday. Again, our students
represented us in fine form and it was pleasing to note their exceptional behaviour.
With leadership of any kind comes important
responsibility. Last week over twenty students, from Year
5 put themselves forward for nomination for leadership positions in our school. Congratulations to you all. Each
student in the school then took part in a secret ballot to vote for the ten people they wanted to lead them into
2012. The elected leaders for 2012 are: Jamie Henson,
Kate McCalman, Georgie McCalman, Taylah King, Ella Park, Caitlyn Murray, Dalton Emery, Nicholas O’Connor,
Kane Wishart & Rhys Brown.
The first duty of our new leaders was to host the Farewell
for the outgoing Year 6 students and their guests, last night. We thank them for the marvellous job they did, and
look forward to having their representation at future functions for the school and in the community. I look back
at ‘little’ Billy and Isabel at the beginning of the year, and I marvel at the qualities and maturity that these two fine
young adult Captains of 2011 have grown into. I am
reminded of the importance of opportunity, and the purposeful learning that it brings - building personal
strengths, competencies and skills to take forward into their future. Thankyou Billy and Isabel, Caleb and Emily,
for the exemplary leadership you provided for our school.
A milestone in the lives of all of our Year 6 students was
celebrated on Monday evening. A dinner in honour of Year 6, 2011, was enjoyed by our students, family members
and teaching staff. As we farewell our students, many of
whom have been at Edward for more than 6 years, we wish them well as they continue on their educational
pathway. Fond memories of good times, and steadfast
friendships go hand in hand with schools like Edward, and I am sure there will be many a good time, looked
back upon in years to come. I wish you all the very best, and welcome you back to Edward for those
special nostalgic visits. Many thanks not only goes to
Mrs Young, Mrs Bermingham and Mr Howell, for presenting our students with a wonderful night to
remember, but to all of the staff of Edward who have touched the lives of our youth in their formative years
of education.
School Reports went home yesterday with the
children. Please ask them for it, if you have not yet received it. The report is a record of your child’s
assessed achievements at this point in time. If there are any aspects of the report you wish to discuss, please
contact your child’s class teacher.
On Wednesday we thank our very valued volunteers
for the great work they have done for our students, teachers and school. In so many ways we have
appreciated your time and dedication given to us, here
at Edward. Thank you for making a difference. All of our staff are looking forward to seeing you at the
special morning tea on Wednesday at 11:00 am. Presentation Night is an important time to
acknowledge achievement. While there are two
hundred students in our school who are all proficient in aspects of schooling and daily life, on presentation
night, a selection of those achievers are recognised for their exemplary attainments. The Presentation Night
will be held at the Deniliquin RSL Club, commencing at 6:30pm on Thursday.
Class placements are important, and due care and consideration is given to the placement of each and
every student. As the fluctuating intake and outgoings
of students continues to adjust, our planning for 2012 continues to be an ongoing process. We have
welcomed many new students into our school in Term 4, and we know that we will be welcoming more in the
new year. Teachers and classes will be announced at the beginning of next year.
Safety on the holidays is always on our minds as the school holidays approach. Please remember that the
school is not a safe place to play after school hours, and especially on the holidays, when there is no
supervision.
As this is the last newsletter for 2011 I would like to
take this opportunity to thank our school community for its ongoing support of our school. Best wishes for a safe
and peaceful summer break, and I look forward to
welcoming you back in 2012.
Best wishes,
Joy Soper Principal

Talent Show
Tomorrow, Wednesday 14th December has been set
aside for the ever popular Talent Show, so if you can sing, dance, play a musical instrument or tell a good
joke, we need you now. Don’t forget that this is just for fun and you can do it with a friend or fly solo.
Starts at 11.30am.
Year 6 Walk of Honour
This year as a special farewell to our Year 6 students, we will be saying goodbye with a Walk of Honour at the
end of the day on Friday at 2.50pm. The other
students at school will create a Walk of Honour for the Year 6 students to walk through as they leave primary
school for the last time. This is the first year that this has been done and we hope it will become a great
tradition at Edward. We invite all Year 6 parents along
to join in the farewell.
Stage 3 Diaramas
There is a display of Stage 3 diaramas for parents to
peruse. They are set up in the old hall and will be available to view until Thursday this week.
Year 6 Dinner
A huge thank you to ALL Year 6 mums, dads and
grandparents for the wonderful smorgasboard of salads and sweets you supplied for the Year 6 graduation
dinner. Your contribution ensured our inaugural
Bradley Hall Graduation was a success. Thanks.
