    EXCELLENCE IN UPSR PROGRAMME REPORT

    INTRODUCTION

    The programme was carried out throughout the year before and after UPSR examination. It is

    held to improve the quality of UPSR pupils in the line with schools target for academic

    excellence. Furthermore, it will be an example for present society. Parents, teachers and NGO

    are involved to achieve this objective. In addition, supplication to Allah S.W.T for success.

    Insyaallah.

    AIMS

    1) Increase the motivation level of Year 6 pupils2) Pupils performance evaluated in each test3) To indentify pupils who fail to complete their task4) Reward the pupils who changed their attitude5) Provide opportunities for pupils to increase their potential6) Give opportunity to pupils to exchange ideas and interact7) Expose the pupils in various method of guidance8) Provide knowledge in order for better understanding at home9) To stimulate the pupils further for excellence10)To stimuli the pupils towards success.

    OBJECTIVES OF PROGRAMME

    REPORT ON IMPLEMENTATION OF PROGRAMME

    Demi Masa Programme

    It is an answering of question activity and done in the morning after pupils arrived at

    school. The time given is about 30 minutes and it is done from Monday to Thursday. The

    questions are prepared by Year 6 English Teacher according to the time table given. When

    this activity held, the English Teacher will monitor the pupils. Year 6 pupils will be excuse to

    attend the assembly.

    Kunjung Mesra Jaya Programme ( Meet Year 6 Parents Programme )

    This programme was held on the 21st of January 2011 at 2.30 pm venue on that day.

    The objective is to share the principles and child development. Informing parents about child

    development, which can help their children towards academic excellence. Towards the end a

    daily session is held, parents meet an English teacher to know about their children. From the

    meeting, parents know the strengths and weaknesses of his children in English Language and

    try to solve the problem. The programme end at 6.00 pm.

    Intensive Class

    The Intensive Class is done from 1.00 to 2.00 pm every Monday to Thursday. But for

    the English Language Class, it held on every Tuesday. This programme is carried out by

    English Language Teacher of the respective classes. With this Intensive Class, pupils can

    have discussion with teacher on how to overcome their English Language problems and

    others.

    The second session is done every Wednesday night from 8.30 to 10.30 pm.

    Attendance is not compulsory but pupils will be asked to make a payment. The teacher in

    charge this class is Encik Sathes from Sekolah Kebangsaan Dato Palembang. English Panel

    invited this teacher to conduct the intensive class, as may to increase knowledge of language

    and get the differences of teaching and learning English Language between at class and

    intensive class. The English teacher will supervise the intensive class.

    The third Intensive Class is done every second Saturday and the fourth week of the

    month. Pupils are required to wear their school uniform. The teachers on duty will distribute

    a set of questions papers from other states such as Terengganu, Pulau Pinang, Negeri

    Sembilan and Johor. The purpose is to expose pupils to the UPSR examination and different

    sets of questions.

    The last Intensive Class is done during the school holidays. The response was good

    because some pupils do not have an activity during school holidays. So, when they attend this

    intensive class, they have something to do during the school holidays. This intensive class

    almost held during the first week of school holidays and it help pupils to improve their

    vocabulary, grammar and others methods.

    Technique Of Answering Question Workshop

    This programme was done on the 15th

    of March 2011 which is in school holidays. The

    English Panel invited Puan Siti Hajar binti Mohd from Sekolah Kebangsaan Belimbing

    Dalam to give a talk. She is one of the markers for UPSR English paper. On this workshop,

    pupils were exposed to the technique of answering questions. Pupils also can ask question

    about the problem when they answer the English paper either for Paper 1 or Paper 2

    questions.

    Minda Cerdas Programme

    The Minda Cerdas Programme is done towards the end of UPSR examination which

    is two weeks before the examination is held. It was done at Wet World Pedas, Negeri

    Sembilan last year. The purpose is to reduce the stress focused by pupils before sitting the

    examination. All Year 6 teachers and pupils are involved in this programme and the

    attendance is compulsory. For English panel, there are some extra activity which is pupils

    must build the word from the name of the programme for example word old can get from

    the name of Wet World. Besides that, pupils also must write the things that they found at this

    place in English.

    Post UPSR Programme

    As the UPSR examination is not over, I would like to state the activities from last year

    activities. There were many activities done by English Panel. This is to ensure pupils get

    more knowledge and use their time properly. The activities are like making folio and idioms.

    Pupils are divided into groups of five. They must complete the folio in a weeks time. They

    are allowed to surf internet for further reference. English teachers will supervise the activity.

    The second activity is recital of poem in English. Each class must send five pupils.

    The theme of the topic is free and its done at the canteen. The judge is from English teachersYear 5. The winner is Nur Izzah, second place was Aliff Amsyar and the third place is Tan

    Kean Heng. Five consolation prizes were given.

    Next activity is the tongue-twister activity. Pupils were asked to say a sentence

    quickly and correctly for example Betty Botter bought some butter, but she said this

    butters bitter! But a bit of better butter will but make my butter better so she bought some

    better butter, better than the bitter butter, and it made her butter so twas better Betty Botter

    bought a bit of better butter!. Five pupils are asked to say the tongue-twister. First, second,

    third and consolation prizes were given.

    The last activity which is held after UPSR examination is slide show on knowledge.

    This activity is held at the Slide Show Room. Pupils watch the show arranged by Encik

    Abdul Kadir bin Emok which is the Multimedia teacher. One of the show is Harry Potter.

    Pupils have to act out the show when they go to their class.

    STRENGTHS OF PROGRAMME

    1) All the parties involved have to give full cooperation2) Pupils will have to be more consistant when answering questions3) Parents have to get feedback about their children from the teachers4) Instill the spirit of willingness to learn among pupils5) Pupils know the techniques of answering questions6) Pupils were relieved of stress during Minda Cerdas programme7) Were able to test pupils knowledge about idioms8) Pupils talents were brushed up during Poem Recital activity9) Pupils were able to communicate with their friends in English Language

    WEAKNESSES OF PROGRAMME

    1) There were some late comers and not able to finish the activity on time2) Some parents were absent during the Kunjung Mesra Jaya programme3) Some of the pupils did not attend the Intensive Class4) Pupils were not able to concentrate during the Motivation Session.

    SUGGESTIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

    1) Conduct Demi Masa programme after the school session2) Notify the parents earlier so they can attend the Kunjung Mesra Jaya programme3) Penalise the absentees of Intensive Class4) Request that the guest speaker to make some jokes so pupils dont feel bored5) Ask pupils to increase the grammar and spelling activity6) Encourage the pupils to read more English Language Books7) Encourage pupils to speak in English at home8) Encourage pupils to watch English Television Programmes9) Parents should check the pupils work at home and make sure they complete their

    home work on time

    CONCLUSION

    It is anticipated that with the implementation of this programme , the overall achievement of

    the pupils in the coming UPSR examination will improve. Furthermore, the school will have

    a good reputation.
