cBs ExcElEratE OFFERS ExCEPTIONAL YEAR 12 BUSINESS STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO COmPLETE A CUSTOmISED, INDUSTRY BASED UNIVERSITY UNIT IN ONE OF THREE STREAmS; accounting, Economics or information systEms.

This unique 14 week program embeds work integrated learning, professional training and industry engagement to provide a challenging and life changing experience for high achieving year 12 students.

studEnt opportunitiEs and BEnEfitsThe CBS Excelerate program offers students a competitive edge. Some of the benefits of the program include:

• Training in the state of the art Future Technologies Learning Space

• Simulated stockmarket sessions in the CBS Trading Room, which is one of the most sophisticated trading rooms in Australia.

• A two day professional development retreat in the Perth Central Business District

• Workplace tours of global organisations

• Networking with business leaders

• Job application and interview training from senior recruitment professionals

• A scholarship and credit toward a Curtin Business School commerce degree

• Curriculum council endorsement

• The opportunity to attain employment positions

thE ExcElEratE ExpEriEncEThe CBS Excelerate program includes many of the brightest business students in Perth. This creates a dynamic environment in which highly motivated students, from a wide range of Schools, challenge and inspire each other to be the best they can be. Working with other high achievers, networking with business leaders and receiving complex training develops professionalism, fast tracks careers and changes lives.

The program enjoys very strong support from major organisations such as PricewaterhouseCoopers, KPmG, The Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Leeuwin Estate Winery, IKEA, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and the Australian Computer Society.

I obtained a professional traineeship position at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) as a result of my participation in the Excelerate Accounting program at Curtin. I applied for a two year, full-time, paid traineeship within the organisation, went through the interview process and

was deemed a successful candidate. I am now working in the International Tax Division at the Perth office. It has been fantastic to be able to put my uni study into practice whilst learning it and PwC have been very accommodating of my study schedule - “work, life, balance” is their motto! I love the fact that I was not treated like a trainee but was thrown into the deep end and expected to work like every other member of the tax team. my thoughts and decisions were put into practice and used on client accounts - it is great to think you are having a small impact in the running of a huge multinational company! In February of next year I will be working full time as a Tax Consultant at PwC and will be looking to complete my professional studies in Chartered Accountancy.

The increased confidence in the boys who have

completed the CBS Excelerate program is obvious.

Their contribution to class discussions is more

mature and reflects a greater depth of understanding

The involvement of big businesses with the Excelerate program provided me with an invaluable insight into the reality which exists outside of the classroom. We were fortunate enough to be able to pick the brains of state-wide managers!

I gained a traineeship position while in Year 12 but this would not have been possible without the preparation and guidance provided by the CBS Excelerate program. The benefits I have been able to draw from this program have been truly life changing oskar paino-povey, 2011 cBs Excelerate graduate.

cBs ExcElEratE rEtrEatThe focus of the Excelerate Retreat is professional development and industry engagement. The two day program includes an overnight stay in a hotel in the heart of the central business district and includes a range of fun, interactive activities designed to develop lateral thought, enhance acumen in business and leadership and improve skills in the areas of communication and teamwork.
