    Final Placements 2009 at IIM Indore saw a batch

    of 175 candidates securing preferred jobs in

    various sectors

    Financial Institutions, Media, Travel & Tourism,

    Infrastructure, Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals,

    Education and allied services as well as Energy

    45% increase in international assignments over

    those offered in Final Placements 2008

    Candidates with prior work experience

    registered a raise of 166% in annual

    compensation

    The successful completion of Final Placements 2009

    for the tenth graduating PGDM batch at IIM Indore was

    a testimony to the faith reposed by the corporateworld in IIM Indore.

    Due to the economic slowdown there has been a

    concerted effort towards reaching out to a wider base

    of organizations.

    The number of partner firms which participated in Final Placements 2009

    stood at 126, a substantial increase from last years figure of 95. Of these,

    nearly 56% were newly established partnerships which also accounted for

    the bulk of the hiring.

    Among continuing partnerships, major recruiters who visited campus inFinal Placements 2009 were Deutsche Bank, HSBC, Standard Chartered,

    Deloitte, Infosys Technologies, Knight Frank, ITC, Johnson & Johnson,

    Pfizer, GSK Pharma, L&T, Bharti, HT Media, AT Foods and Godrej.

    Several new corporate partnerships were initiated this season with firms

    across sectors. The infrastructure and manufacturing sector saw a large

    number of such relationships being established with firms such as Punj

    Llyod, Jindal Steel, Bosch, Jindal South West, Indofil Chemicals

    Company, Mahindra & Mahindra, Grasim etc. Financial institutions like

    CARE Ratings, SBI Capital, Unicon Investments and UTI Mutual Fund alsooffered a variety of roles. A few other important newly established

    partnerships were with firms such as Manipal Group, Indebo, Renoir

    Consulting, VIP Industries, Virgin Mobile, Eli Lilly & Co., Infrasoft

    Technologies, One97 Communications, Kelloggs and Amul. Several firms

    also recruited exclusively at IIM Indore for various global and Indian

    locations.

    Final Placements 2009 also witnessed candidates accepting a range of

    profiles across various Public Sector Undertakings such as BPCL, SAIL,

    ONGC, IOCL, Bank of Baroda and Union Bank of India.

    Amongst start-ups which participated in Final Placements 2009 at IIM Indore

    were Excelan Consultancy, The Colour Factory, Direct-I, Resurgent India

    and Bizzsource.

    The Finance function saw approximately 50% of the Class of 2009

    securing offers in various profiles in Final Placements 2009.

    Recruiters in the Banking and Financial services included

    Multinational & Indian Banking majors, Credit Rating Agencies,

    Derivatives Trading firms, Broking, Asset Management,

    Investment Banking and Private Equity firms. Various niche

    profiles were on offer in Final Placements 2009 for example, financial

    consulting, private equity advisory, front-end I-banking. The

    coveted buy-side analyst profiles were included too. The average

    annual compensation offered in this function was INR 9.27L.

    Other prominent firms that offered lucrative roles were Deutsche

    Bank, Yes Bank, Standard Chartered, HSBC Global Research, Axis

    Bank, Bank of Baroda, Union Bank of India , UTI Mutual Fund,

    ICRA, SEBI, L&T, CTS and Jindal South West.

    The Sales/Marketing and Business Development function saw25% of the Class of 2009 being selected across a range of sectors

    such as FMCG, IT/ITeS, Energy, Media, Telecom and

    Pharmaceuticals. The average annual compensation offered in this

    function was INR 13.44L.

    16 participants from the Class of 2009 will join top FMCGs like

    Hindustan Unilever, Colgate Palmolive, Marico, Dabur, ITC and

    AT Foods. 50% of the international offers were made to candidates

    in IT/ITeS for Sales & Business Development with job-postings

    around the globe. Some candidates opted for unconventional fields ininternational Online Marketing. Firms like GSK Pharma, Eli Lilly,

    and Pfizer etc represented the growing Pharmaceuticals sector

    with roles in brand management, sales and business development.

    The Consulting and Corporate Strategy function saw nearly 15% of

    the Class of 2009 securing offers in various organizations. Average

    annual compensation offered for this profile was approximately INR

    10L.

    Organizations such as Punj Llyod, Infrasoft Technologies, Grasim,

    Larsen & Toubro offered positions in the area of strategy as

    Executive Assistants to CXOs. The Jindal Lead Management Group

    profile offered by the Jindal Group was well received by the

    candidates. A large Indian conglomerate offered strategy positions to

    work closely with a leading management consultancy firm for creating

    an aggressive growth program for the organization. Other recruiters

    who offered strategy roles came from sectors such as Education,

    Healthcare, Infrastructure, Manufacturing, FMCG and Media. Business

    Advisory and consulting roles were offered in areas such as Real

    Estate, Financial Services, Professional Services, IT/ITeS, Life

    Sciences etc. Firms that participated this season with business

    advisory roles on offer were McKinsey & Co., Arthur D. Little, PwC,

    Deloitte, Renoir Consulting, Knight Frank, IBM & i2 Technologies.

    The General Management and Operations function had a large

    demand for managerial talent in Final Placements 2009. Firms like

    Bosch,IMS, TIME, HT Media, Big 92.7 FM and Era Group offered

    General Management roles with an average annual compensation of

    INR 8.5L.

    Kelloggs, Maersk Logistics, Amul, Gati and Nerolac Paints were

    those that offered challenging roles in the Operations function.

    With rich diversity in the Class of 2009 , IIM Indore had the additional

    challenge of finding fitting roles for candidates with significant industry

    exposure, ranging to twelve years. They were placed across sectors such as

    defence, financial services, information technology, manufacturing, healthcare,

    infrastructure, hospitality etc.

    While an average annual compensation of INR 9.65L was on offer tocandidates with no prior experience, candidates with prior experience

    received an average annual compensation ofINR 10.67L.

    Lateral participants benefited most from the placement process this season

    with candidates realizing an average raise in annual compensation of nearly

    166% over that drawn prior to joining PGP at IIM Indore. One of the

    candidates with more than five years experience with government

    establishments was placed in a front-end I-Banking role with a seven-fold

    increase in annual compensation.

    IIM Indore Final Placements 2009 offered candidates the opportunity to opt

    for a variety of career shifts. A doctor with prior international exposure

    graduated with a dream-consulting role in healthcare and life sciences, a

    scientist from a defence organization was offered the opportunity with a

    major player in the medical equipment market.

    IIM Indore has proved to be a robust platform for providing ample

    opportunities for suitable career progression in fields like IT/ITeS and

    Financial services. The most experienced candidate in the current batch was

    able to leverage his prior experience by being suitably inducted into a seniormanagement position in the micro-finance arena by a large Indian MNC

    conglomerate.

    Emerging TrendsPlacements2009

    The focus having shifted from salaries and incentives to challenging roles,

    candidates chose job profiles with demanding assignments in rural India as

    well as locations such as London, Toronto, Cologne, Cairo, Dubai and

    Singapore at the other end.

    In Final Placements 2009, average annual compensation offered on campus

    stood at INR 10.29L which is a 21% decline over that offered in Final

    Placements 2008. The median annual compensation offered in Final

    Placement 2009 was INR 9L as against INR 10.5L in the previous season.

    Despite the global economic slowdown, Final Placement 2009 at IIM Indore

    saw an increase of 45% in foreign postings and foreign assignments in

    comparison to the previous year. About 50% of foreign assignments were

    from IT/ITeS sector.

    Several candidates opted to join start-ups this season with equity stakes and

    senior positions of responsibility in functions such as business

    development, general management, sales and marketing. Another interesting

    trend was the increased enthusiasm towards entrepreneurial ventures.

    Following the successful venture by two IIM Indore candidates (founders of

    www.ourownbook.com) from the Class of 2008, two candidates from IIM

    Indore Class of 2009 have signed out from Final Placements 2009 to pursue

    their dreams of starting entrepreneurial ventures in the sunrise education

    sector.

    The Class of 2010 is all set to build upon the legacy of diversity and excellence set by the

    batch of 2009. The eleventh Batch of Post Graduate Participants at IIM Indore is rich and

    varied in work experience, with nearly 45% participants having 20 months or more of

    professional experience. Candidates with exemplary experience in fields like journalism,

    theoretical sciences, medicine, accountancy, IT services, consultancy etc are part of the

    Class of 2010. A direct impact of this would be the creation of a meaningful participative

    learning environment at IIM Indore.

    Overall the faith instilled in the managerial talent at IIM Indore by the corporate world in

    the current trying times has been reassuring. Consolidating its position as a premier
