The Terminal/Large Depot (hereinafter termed as

Terminal) is a storage area where petroleumproducts are received through cross-countrypipeline and/or large vessels/ships and are storedin tank farms. The distribution is carried out usingTrucks, Rail cars (popularly known as Tank-car orWagon), barges and similar means. The terminalmay be owned by one company but stores severalcompany products. Yokogawa has acquired richexperience over the years and supplied TerminalAutomation Systems to suit varied needs of thecustomers. It is endeavor of this brochure tohighlight the features, functionality, hardware andconceptual requirements for realizing andimplementing Terminal Automation demands andneeds.

Human Interface Station (HIS)The HIS, with its engineering and supervisory computercommunication functions, lets you take command of plantoperations and monitoring.Field Control Station (PFCS)The FCS is the heart of the CENTUM CS 1000 and itsadvanced control function.VLnetThis real-time system-control bus connects CENTUM CS1000 stations such as PFCS and HIS.

    TAS-MS (Management Functions)

The main objective of installing Exatas in a terminalenvironment is to optimally utilize the resources, just-in-timeloading and unloading operations and to do the terminalmanagement which owned by several owners by properlymonitoring and controlling product movement operations. The management function module, as envisaged in Exatas isto provide a gateway ensemble to ERP system to properlyexecute orders downloaded from there. The downloadedorder data is analyzed and managed at TAS-MS to produce asequence of events and information packets that can beunderstood by TAS-CS module for controlling the instrumentsand data collection functions in the Terminal. The control

property definition as prepared by TAS-MS includes the baynomination, loading data, card reader information, presetbatch volume, loading arm allocation etc. The control propertydefinition is prepared individually for ship loading / unloading, pipeline receipt / dispatch and truck loading operations. Thedefinition ensemble uses templates for easy data preparation.Once the execution information is downloaded into TAS-CS,the responsibility of TAS-MS is to observe and collect relevantdata for the preparation of BOL and assemble other datapackets that can be processed at upper level systems.

    Human Interface Functions

HIS (Human Interface Station) is an important module in theExatas configuration. The displays of TAS-MS are built withVisual Basic, a market-available product that has futuristicenhancements in terms of versatility and simplicity. The operation and control function displays are realizedgraphically using built-in tools of CS 1000. The displayhierarchy is achieved and realized over years of experience inthe field. HIS is the only operator interface that provideswindow capability to TAS-MS and TAS-CS functionalmodules. In addition, an independent TAS-MS client can berealized as a display station for monitoring and datamanagement of TAS-MS.

    TAS-CS(Control Functions)

The TAS-CS handles the loading and unloading of Oil products,LPG Petrochemical and Asphalt. The functionality includes allnecessary monitoring & control functions, traffic control oftrucks and rail cars(wagon), control of weigh bridges and otheroil movement functions as detailed in the functional structure ofExatas. The TAS-MS downloads the control property definitioninto TAS-CS for execution. With the help of versatile softwarecontrol modules built in CS 1000 hardware, the Tank InventoryModule and Transfer Control Module, the TAS-CS executes themovement control function with ease and efficiency. Whileexecuting the movement control, TAS-CS continuouslymonitors the tank inventory, pump running status, flow meter

readings (including custody transfer meter readings) and otherinstruments. The close monitoring yields accurate control onthe quantity transferred and annunciating alarms in case ofinadvertent operation or equipment malfunction.

    Typical System Architecture

TAS-MS downloads control information to TAS-CS based on theorder data. Then, TAS-CS manages operation of shiploading/unloading control, truck/wagon entrance/exit control andloading control.

TAS-MS collects operation data after loading/unloading iscompleted, processes and uploads the data to the upper levelsystem to issue BOL. Alternatively,TAS-MS itself can issue BOL.

Exatas is configured using two sub-systems (TAS-MS and TAS-CS) using CS 1000 as a standard hardware platform.

    The Concepts

Exatas is built around three strong conceptsFunctional, Flexible and FuturisticFunctional

Exatas is functional as it circumscribes theneeds of the terminal operation andmanagement. Three major divisions of workare envisaged in a terminal. The controlfunction that collects data from field devices, the human interface (HMI) function that acts aswindow to the terminal operations and theupper level system interface function thatinteracts with ERP enterprise datamanagement model. The control function, theHMI function and the ERP interface functionare amalgamated to form the core of theExatas concept and integrity. The functionsare realized and distributed to reduce the totalcost of ownership (TCO) over the life of thesystem in service.

    Flexible

Exatas has enormous flexibility as the systemis built with modular architecture. Yokogawa'sstandard system architecture at the controllevel provides immense flexibility to startbuilding the system from a lower end to the

needs as it grows in time. Modular I/O boards, control racks, HMI stations and modularsoftware resembles the system building achild's play. The proposed systemconfiguration also enables the user engineersto augment the capacity online without anymajor shutdown. The control properties andinterface information can be configured to suitvaried user needs.

    Futuristic

Yokogawa has chosen the leading market-available products to build Exatas in order tokeep in track with excellent emerging ERPtechnologies such as SAP R/3 and to sustainin the market by adopting Windows NT,Oracle.Yokogawa is committed to upgrade thecomponents of Exatas suite wheneverconstituent upgrades are made available byrespective software vendors such as Microsoft,Oracle and others.
