During our Duke of Edingborough walk we encountered many different leaves. However, their were 5 main ones which kept appearing.
![Page 4: Example presentation This groups purpose was “Types of Leaves to be found in the Chilterns” They have made a presentation to show what they found out.](https://reader035.fdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062315/56649ebc5503460f94bc5ce7/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Oak leaves:-These often have spirally arranged leaves-The leaves are poisonous to cattle, horses, sheep and goats due to the toxin tannic acid.-However if a livestock has a taste of these leaves they may seek them out causing illness.-Pigs are the only animal which do not become ill from eating oak leaves or acorns.
I will be staying away from those in the future!

Fern leaves - These do not have seeds or flowers instead they reproduce using spores. - There are over 12,000 species of fern and the West Tropics has up to 65% of Australia's fern species! - Out of the 12000 species it is a surprise that our D.O.E group only found one type of species on our walk-Hares foot fern!

Deck the Halls with boughs of.....
Holly leaves
- These are easily identified by their prickly edge People often plant them to create a hedge for privacy However they are most commonly known for being a Christmas decoration ...tralalalala....
Where are the holly leaves?

Stinging Nettles
-These were the most common type of leaf our group came across.
-They are easily identified due to the hairs which surround the stem and leaf- these hairs are often stinging hairs.
- This happens because when touched the hair transforms into a needle injecting several chemicals into the skin causing a painful sting.
-Unfortunately for our group we had many encounters with this type of leaf throughout our walk causing plenty of sore legs!!!

Dock leaves
-These are easily identified due to the large surface area of the leaf.
-They are often found growing near the area where stinging nettles grow.
-Many people believe that they have the ability to soothe stings which are caused by the stinging nettles – which was fortunate for our group!

Ivy Leaves
-These often grow in vines up trees.
-The most commonly known type of ivy is poison ivy which has the ability to give people rashes when they touch it.
-Luckily our group did not encounter poison ivy!

Overall our Duke of Edingborough experience was very fun!!
We believe we successfully completed our aim of studying the different types of leaves.
And after a hard day walking across the countryside our group looked forward to putting our tent up, playing some cards and going to sleep!
Do we look cool?
YEAHHHHHH BOI!!!
