Her father was a teacher of Physics and Mathematics. She was a good student. She went to France in 1891. She studied Physics and Mathematics at the Sorbonne, the famous French university. Marie had a very difficult life in Paris, so her father often sent her money from Warsaw for her education. Then she got a job as a research scientist. She met Pierre Curie and married him in 1895. They celebrated the wedding in France. They had their first child in 1897. They called her Irene. Pierre and Marie worked together and discovered radium in 1898. In 1903, Marie and Pierre Curie won the Nobel Prize for Physics. A tragic event happened the same year: Pierre died in a street accident. In 1906, Marie became a teacher at the Sorbonne. She was the first woman to get that job. MARIE CURIE continued her researches and won the Nobel Prize again for Chemistry in 1911. She died in 1934.
