ENGLISHintroductionIn critical situations, count on MGE UPSSYSTEMS Pulsar EX7, EX10 and EX15uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). Theirprotection keeps your data intact andaccessible.Pulsar EX7, EX10 and EX15 UPSs ensuretop quality power around the clock, andcontinue operations during power failures. An intelligent microprocessor detects anyoperating anomalies of the UPS and triggersan alarm if corrective action is necessary. In addition to the high-technology aspect ofthese UPSs, you can count on backup fromour staff, a team of specialists, around thecorner from you, throughout the world. It’sno accident that MGE UPS SYSTEMS is theworld leader in UPS protection.

application of Pulsar EX7, EX10and EX15:Network servers and interconnectiondevices are very sensitive to electricaldisturbances of all types, including outages, voltage sags, brownouts, spikes, etc. Theorigins of the disturbances also vary, rangingfrom atmospheric phenomena, to nearbydevices generating interference such aselevators, photocopy machines and machinetools, not to mention human errors, like theaccidental pulling out of power cords ortripping of circuit breakers. Theconsequences of these disturbances oncomputer systems range from data losses tohardware damage (power supplies, harddisks).Pulsar EX7, EX10 and EX15 are speciallydesigned to protect network servers and all

other interconnection devices that aresensitive to electrical disturbances.Pulsar EX7, EX10 and EX15 add fault-tolerance to the utility supplying yoursensitive equipment.Pulsar EX7, EX10 and EX15 are designedas compact units and feature very silentoperation. They can be installed under adesk, and can also be installed in a rack(see "options").Pulsar EX7, EX10 and EX15 provide astable supply of clean power, long back-uptime during a utility outage (see table) andvast information and control possibilitiesaccording to the configuration selected.Pulsar EX7, EX10 and EX15 On-Linetechnology provides maximum protectionand availability of your workstations, server, and network communication devices.Pulsar EX7, EX10 and EX15 offer manyfunctions and characteristics designed tosimplify power management:c automatic battery test carried outperiodically. In the event of a fault, a LEDprovides advance warning for batteryreplacement;c front panel LEDs signal all types of faultsand alarms;c Bar graph continuously indicates thebattery charge level or the critical loadpower level;c Pulsar EX7, EX10 and EX15 areenvironment friendly: all components arerecyclable and an electronic power-saverdevice reduces power consumption if theUPS is not active for a period exceeding 5minutes while on battery back-up;c EX Driver software provides rapid startup

of Pulsar EX7, EX10 and EX15 using theEX Tuner configuration module. This moduleadapts Pulsar EX7, EX10 and EX15 to userpreferences (battery test frequency, startupand shutdown sequences, setting of batterythresholds, etc.). Operation and monitoringare ensured by the UPS Manager 3.1module operating under Windows 3.1.EX Driver connects to the RS 232 port onthe Pulsar EX7, EX10 and EX15 (see"communication" section for further details);c Solution-PacTM is a CD-ROM whichcontains all the tools needed to superviseyour UPS.

software supplied withPulsar EX7, EX10 and EX15To meet the different operatingenvironments of your UPS, Pulsar EXincludes 2 MGE UPS SYSTEMS softwareprograms:c EX-Driver software for Windows (on 3.5"diskettes);c Solution-Pac TM network software (on CD-ROM).

EX-Driver for WindowsEX Driver for Windows providescommunication with the UPS from a simpleWindows workstation. EX-Driver iscompatible with Windows 3.1x and Windows95, for communication with the UPS via aserial connection for various needs:c personalization of the UPS operatingmode: the EX-Tuner utility, can be used tochange certain UPS operating parameters ifthe standard factory settings are not ideal forthe operating conditions. It is possible to modify the output voltage,battery-test frequency, startup and shutdownsequences, operation of automatic by-pass,etc.;c UPS monitoring from a Windowsworkstation and system safety:EX-Driver, UPS Manager 3 software, candisplay the UPS status, warn the user if aproblem arises, and provide automaticshutdown. The many possibilities available include:v supervision of operating parametersthrough a graphic interface (display ofbattery charge level, remaining battery timeand UPS load level). These values can berecorded periodically in a log file,v messages to the user in case of power

outage or UPS problem and recording ofevents in a log file,v during long-term power outages, automatic shutdown of the system and ofthe UPS, followed by automatic restart of theUPS (system reboot) on return of utilitypower,v PowerShareTM functions.

Solution-Pac TM for networks andmulti-station systemsNovell Netware, Windows NT, OS/2 LanServer, SCO Unix, etc.)Protection by UPS is only complete andeffective if combined with powerful softwarefunctions which warn users and the operatorof any power supply problem, automatesystem shutdown, supervise and remotelycontrol the UPSs. MGE UPS SYSTEMScreated Solution-PacTM for this purpose.Solution-PacTM combines all these functionsin a single CD-ROM, usable in local orremote mode (SNMP), and covering themain network environments.Solution-PacTM is the ideal solution forprotecting networks and multistationsystems.Solution-PacTM on a single CD-ROMcontains everything needed to safeguardone or more systems and to supervise oneor more UPSs from a local or remote station.Solution-PacTM includes SNMP UM-Agent,UM-Client system shutdown software, andUM-Console supervision software.Solution-PacTM is a powerful and upgradablesoftware tool which provides all thesupervision, control and safety functions

associated with a UPS:v graphic display of the UPS,v remote control of the UPS and outputreceptacles,v user alarm of problems,v recording of events in log files,v automatic system shutdown and restart,v local or remote supervision of UPSs andancillary devices,v transmission of UPS information andalarms to any SNMP supervisor.

locationc observe the safety rules indicated at thebeginning of this document.

preliminary checksc check that the "on/off" button " " on thefront is not pushed in;c check that rating shown on the rating labelcorresponds to the input voltagespecification and power requirement of theload.

connectionsc use the AC input cord to supply inputpower to Pulsar as shown.Connect the AC input cord between UPSutility power input receptacle, and utilitypower outlet.

c connect the computer loads to outputsockets 7 .

Note 1: following connection, the batteryautomatically charges, whenever plugged in.

Note 2: the batteries will provide full back-uptime after approximatively 8 hours ofrecharge time.

Note 3: the rating of input power cord mustbe not less than the nominal input rating ofPulsar EX: use the supplied cord.

Note 4: if site wiring fault LED 8 is lit andbuzzer sounds, line/neutral connections arereversed.

c connection of the Pulsar EXB10/EXB15battery extension module (optional):v check that the button "on/off" " " on thefront of the Pulsar EX10/EX15 is not pushedin,v disconnect the input connection cord,v flip the circuit-breaker of the battery unit tothe right (position "O"),v connect the battery connection cord to theDC connector of the battery module andconnect to the Pulsar EX10/EX15 ,v if the installation has 2 battery modules, connect the second cord to the DCconnector of the second module and to thefirst module,v the use of connectors is strictly limited toconnecting the battery modules to thePulsar EX10/EX15 . Any other connection tothese connectors is prohibited and risksdamaging the battery, not covered bywarranty,v to start, flip the battery circuit-breaker tothe left (position "I"),v if your installation is operated with MGEUPS SYSTEMS software, update yourbattery configuration with EX Tuner.
