Parallel Ringing (PRNG)

1 DefinitionThe Parallel Ringing (PRNG) feature simultaneously signals calls to two separate linesbelonging to the same subscriber, e.g. a fixed line in the PSTN and a mobile number. The subscriber can accept the call on either of the two lines.

Operator benefits– increased call charge revenue through additional call setups (called subscriber 1-

called subscriber 2 subscriber)– enhanced service offered to subscribers: greater accessibility

Subscriber benefits– for mobile phone users, e.g. greater accessibility– call diversion need not be activated explicitly– it is not necessary to publicize the directory number of the second line

2 Mode of operationThe Parallel Ringing (PRNG) feature is of interest to customers who have two lines andwant calls to reach them at all times under both numbers. These two lines could, for in-stance, be a fixed line in the PSTN and a mobile number. When the feature is active, every call to the user under the PSTN number is automatically rung on the mobile phonetoo. The user can answer the call at either of the two phones. The call is switched to theline at which the user first answers.

The feature can be activated and deactivated by the operator or by the subscriber bymeans of subscriber controlled input. The subscriber can check on his or her telephonewhether one of the feature variants is active for his or her line.

The feature is assigned to ISDN subscribers on a service-specific basis for voice servic-es.

The maximum number of parallel calls that can be activated per access:• Analog

two per line• ISDN

two per B channel

Other feature authorizations

The following other authorizations can be granted in conjunction with the “parallel ring-ing” feature.• Analog / ISDN

– The calling party is informed, optionally with or without indication of the calledsubscriber’s 2 number, when a call is forwarded to a parallel-ringing number.

– The operating company can assign selected called subscriber 1 the right to for-ward calls to otherwise blocked directory numbers (emergency call numbers, ser-vice numbers).

• ISDN– Whenever the called subscriber 1 party makes an outgoing call, he or she is in-

formed that the feature is active for that directory number. This authorization canonly be assigned to ISDN basic access lines.

– The called subscriber1 party is informed of the fact that parallel ringing is beingperformed.

– The called subscriber 2 is informed of the directory number of the called subscrib-er 1 y, or in the case of multiple call forwarding, the called subscriber’s 1 numberand that of the last forwarding party.

Code point blocking

When a directory number is entered by means of subscriber controlled input, the CP (co-ordination processor) checks whether it is a permitted destination number for parallelringing.

The following destination numbers are not permitted:– numbers that are unknown to the CP (insofar as a directory number is administered

in its own exchange; subscribers served by other exchanges are only checked asdestinations on a partially qualified basis)

– numbers that are blocked for call forwarding at exchange level (for instance policeand emergency numbers)

– numbers associated with a traffic type that is blocked for call forwarding

3 Subscriber controlled inputThe feature can be administrated and used by subscriber controlled input.

For the subscriber procedure, see:• Analog subscriber• ISDN subscriber• GeoCENTREX

– Analog subscriber– ISDN subscriber

Access code

The access code for subscriber controlled input consists of a maximum of 6 charactersor, for GeoCENTREX subscribers, a maximum of 5 characters. It can be formed fromthe symbols ★ , # and the service code (SC) with the digits 0 to 9. The operator canspecify the character strings for the access code.

Differences by pulse dialing

The selected digits are not obligatory; other digits can be input (depending on the exist-ing numbering plan).– 1111 at the beginning of an input in place of ★

– 1112 at the beginning of an input in place of #– 1113 at the beginning of an input in place of ★ #– ★ as a disconnecting signal after the service code, not relevant– # after the subscriber controlled input, not relevant

Acknowledgments after subscriber controlled input

The following tones, announcements and display texts are examples and can be admin-istrated by the operator. The display texts can be changed to suit individual projects.

The subscriber controlled input can be acknowledged by:• Tones

– ringing tone– acceptance tone– subscriber busy tone or number unobtainable tone (NU)

• Announcements– subscriber controlled input successful– subscriber controlled input unsuccessful– feature is already activated– feature is not activated– feature is not available– wrong input

• Display texts (only in ISDN)– wrong input– not authorized– request rejected– successful– unsuccessful– not available

Call charges for connections

Call charges for connections are assigned as follows:– the calling subscriber pays the charges for the connection up to the called subscriber– the forwarding subscriber pays the charges for the connection up to the forwarded

number destination

Note:

If charging for unsuccessful call attempts is active, then charges are also registered forsetting up the call for parallel ringing of the B2 party, regardless of whether or not the B1party answers.

5 AdministrationThe operator can perform all administration functions on the NetManager by means ofuser-friendly applications or MML commands.
