RECYCLING BIN
GENERAL WASTE BIN
Your general waste (green lid) bin is for general household waste. The organic content is composted and the non organic residual waste is sent to landfill.
GENERAL WASTE BIN
What you CAN place in your general waste (green lid) bin
What you CANNOT place in your general waste (green lid) bin
• Glass
• Hot or burning ash
• Old tyres
• Asbestos
• Batteries
• Bricks, concrete, sand and other building materials
• Household hazardous waste (pesticides, herbicides and other dangerous chemicals, combustible liquid, paint or other solvents, motor oil)
• Liquids
• Aerosols
• Food waste, scraps and leftovers
• Green waste (grass, small tree clippings and prunings, leaves)
• Broken toys
• Nappies and dog waste
• General household waste
• Broken shoes, old rags
Your general waste (green lid) bin is collected and transported to the Resource Recovery Facility.
NO GLASS – Whole or broken
If glass is placed in the green lid bin, during the composting process the glass is crushed and it remains in the compost preventing it from becoming a usable soil enhancer. Glass should be placed in the yellow lid recycling bin so that it can be recycled.
At the Resource Recovery Facility all organic contents such as garden waste, food scraps, cotton or textiles are composted.
The ‘No Glass’ campaign is coordinated by Mindarie Regional Council covering 170,000 households across four member councils; City of Joondalup, City of Wanneroo, City of Vincent and Town of Victoria Park.
The remaining non organic contents of your green lid bin is sent to landfill.
