Have you…?

Completed and returned your Graduation Application? If you have not yet completed your graduation application, please go to the Registrar’s Office, room N211, immediately to pick up the application. Complete the application and email it directly to the SJC Registrar, Robert Pergolis at [email protected] or submit the application to the Registrar’s Office (Room N211).***The final deadline to complete your application is Tuesday, April 3rd*** All Graduates and Undergraduates MUST complete a Graduation Application to ensure that your names are included in the Commencement Program and to guarantee the availability of all items necessary to walk in the commencement ceremony (tickets, line card, etc.)

If you are a fully online student, please contact the Associate Director of Online Programs, Ashley Benson, for a digital application at [email protected].

Students who complete the Graduation Application after Tuesday, April 3rd WILL NOT be included in the Commencement program. (see page 4 for more information). Received your Degree Audit from the Registrar’s Office? Once the Graduation Application is completed and submitted, the Registrar’s Office will perform a Degree Audit on your behalf and will send the degree audit to your SJC E-Mail Address. This audit will let you know if you have fulfilled ALL requirements for the degree. To confirm that you have submitted your graduation application and fulfilled all degree requirements, please contact the Registrar’s Office at 631-687-1413 or 631-687-1416. You will only need to apply for graduation once. Contacted Departmental Advisors or Directors of your program with any last minute academic concerns? Call or email your department chair according to your major or the Academic Advisement Center can assist you if necessary (room N302). If you are a fully online student, contact your online academic advisor. Ordered your academic attire by 3/30/18 to receive a substantial price discount? (Please refer to page 8 for specific ordering instructions.) Taken care of all your financial obligations to the College? Questions or Concerns - Contact Bursar’s Office – 631- 687-4555 or room N211. Please note – Degrees will not be distributed to those who have a hold on their account. Completed a Financial Aid Exit Interview/Counseling session? Deadline is May 15, 2018. GRADUATION EVENTS CAP & GOWN PICKUP DAY for those attending any of the following ceremonies

Friday, May 11, 2018 from 12 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Location - Cafeteria CAP & GOWN ORDERS - All orders must be placed online by 3/30/18. If you do not place your order by the March 30th deadline, you can make your cap, gown, and hood purchase in the Bookstore on Cap & Gown Pick up Day (Friday, May 11th between 12:00-7:00pm). Ordering instructions are noted on page 8-9 of this packet (please note the difference in pricing for pre-orders vs. in school purchase)!!! Every graduate should come in person or send someone to pick up academic attire orders or make their purchase during Cap & Gown Pickup Day (Friday, May 11th). All Graduates must purchase a hood. (Please note – Grads that place a “ship to home” order, MUST still attend Cap & Gown Pickup Day to pick up tickets for Graduation). Graduates will also pick up tickets for the Baccalaureate Prayer Service (4 guest tickets), as well as tickets for the Commencement Ceremony (unlimited). *If you are unable to send someone in your place on May 11th, you MUST contact The Office of Student Involvement to let them know to hold your tickets, and notify them as to when (date & time) you will be coming to pick up your items. Please contact the Office of Student Involvement at 631-687-4598 to make these arrangements. Tickets will only be distributed until Friday, May 24, 2018. FULLY ONLINE STUDENTS- Fully Online Students are not required to attend Cap & Gown Pickup Day. All orders can be placed through Oak Hall by 3/30/18, and shipped to home (refer to pg. 9 for ordering instructions). You must place your ticket requests (graduate tickets and guest tickets) through Ashley Benson at [email protected]. Please note - all Grads and guests are required to have tickets for admittance to the Nassau Coliseum. Should you miss the pre-order deadline for Cap & Gown, contact Ashley Benson immediately at [email protected]. BACCALAUREATE PRAYER SERVICE Baccalaureate Date: Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. At Cap and Gown Pickup Day, Grads will pick up tickets to the Baccalaureate Prayer Service (4 guest tickets). Graduates do not need a ticket for the Baccalaureate. Academic attire is required at this event (cap & gown – no hoods). Location - On the SJC Campus in the Muriel & Virginia Pless Center for Performing Arts (Auditorium) The Baccalaureate Prayer Service offers the St. Joseph’s community an opportunity to join with graduates and their families and friends in celebrating the blessings of the years spent at St. Joseph's College through prayer and reflection. The service will be followed by refreshments in the McGann Conference Room. Each graduate may receive tickets for up to 4 guests. All tickets will be distributed at Cap and Gown Pickup Day on Friday, May 11, 2018. Also, please plan to take informal pictures with faculty and staff members at this time if you so desire as you might have difficulty doing so at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. COMMENCEMENT Wednesday, May 30, 2018 Location – Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum Time - 3:00 p.m. Commencement will run approximately 2 hours. There is no limit to the number of guests you may invite, but each guest MUST have a guest pass for admission to the Coliseum. All tickets will be distributed at Cap & Gown Pickup Day on Friday, May 11th. Graduates need a special pass to gain access to the line up area on the Lower Level. This requirement is established by the Nassau Coliseum and is fully enforced by their security. Fully Online Students - Please email Ashley Benson at [email protected] for all ticket requests. For Your Information: Please take informal family pictures outside of the Coliseum before lineup time for Graduation. The Coliseum closes its doors immediately after the Commencement concludes. The arena is not available to guests after Commencement.

Exhibition Hall - Lower Level Please note - Doors will not open until 2:00 p.m. for Graduates and Guests All graduates and guests should enter the Coliseum using the Main Entrance. PARKING: There is ample parking at the Coliseum, including Handicapped accessible parking. Parking is free. PERSONAL ITEMS: All personal items should be locked in your car (out of sight or left in the trunk) or left with your guests. DO NOT BRING BAGS of any sort into the Coliseum Exhibition Hall (lineup area). SJC ACCESSIBILITY SERVICES FOR GRADUATES ONLY: Please contact Lucianna Basilice in Student Accessibility Services at 631-687-2403 by April 27, 2018 should a graduate need special accommodations for Baccalaureate or Commencement. ACCESSIBILITY SERVICES FOR GUESTS: The Coliseum provides areas for wheelchair seating, plus an area for additional guests at all entrances into the arena. The Nassau Coliseum is responsible for providing disabled guest seating and is extremely attentive to the needs of our guests and family members. ***Please note that there is no need to contact St. Joseph’s College for disabled guest seating since The Nassau Coliseum provides the services*** PHOTOGRAPHS: Professional photos will be taken at the Coliseum- Grad Images 1-800-261-2576 Your picture will be taken as you receive your degree. The company will contact you sometime after graduation about purchasing finished prints. For anyone else who is taking photos, please follow the directions given by the ushers. Guest access to the arena is prohibited. Please take informal family pictures before the ceremony outside the Coliseum. Guests can take photos or videos from their seats. There is no access to the arena before, during or after the commencements. Professional photographers will be taking pictures during the Commencement. Informal pictures are permitted outside the Coliseum.

SENIOR PORTRAITS TAKEN ON CAMPUS: East End Photography will be on campus to take senior portraits once during the fall semester and once during the spring semester. Alternate dates will be made available, with the option of making an appointment at the East End Photography studio for your senior photo – BY APPOINTMENT ONLY (contact the Student Involvement Office for more information regarding this alternative). To sign up for your senior portrait session, please stop into the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership in the Student Hospitality Lounge – Room 6. Any questions regarding Senior Portraits that were taken on campus – Please contact the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership by way of email – [email protected] DEGREES WILL NOT BE AWARDED UNLESS ALL FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS TO THE COLLEGE HAVE BEEN MET. THIS INCLUDES: tuition payments, parking fines, graduation fee, video-course tapes, team uniforms, library fines or any other outstanding college debts. Because it takes 10 business days for checks to clear, the only types of payments we will accept after May 10, 2018 are cash, certified checks, and credit cards (VISA, MasterCard, and Discover only). **Please note - degrees will not be distributed at the Coliseum. For Degree Distribution dates, please refer to page 7 of this packet. UNDERGRADUATE GRADUATION WALKERS: Students who are short six or fewer credits to graduate. Any undergraduate student planning to graduate in May 2018 who is six or less credits below the required credits needed to earn the degree or who will not achieve the minimum credits required due to a withdrawal or failure in a course, must see Sister Suzanne Franck in Room N302 by Tuesday, May 1st to register for the total number of needed credits for the summer session in order to walk in the Commencement Ceremony. Fully online students must contact Ashley Benson at [email protected]. It is important that these issues be resolved before Cap and Gown Pickup Day which is Friday, May 11th. Please submit your Graduation Application regardless of any issues so your name will appear in the program. Please note – Undergraduate Graduation Walkers would be “walking” in the ceremony. However, the degree conferral will take place in August, which will be noted on your transcript. Undergraduates may only walk once. From North – Long Island Expressway West (I-495) to exit 39 (Glen Cove Road South) to Old Country Road. Turn left and go east for one mile to Merrick Avenue. Turn right to Nassau Coliseum.

**REQUIRED** GRADUATION APPLICATION: If you have not yet completed your graduation application, please stop in the Registrar’s Office – room N211 to pick one up. The final deadline for all Graduation Applications is, Tuesday, April 3rd. All Graduates MUST complete a Graduation Application to ensure that names will appear in the Commencement Program and to guarantee the availability of all items necessary to walk in the commencement ceremony (tickets, line card, etc.) Once your application is received by the Registrar’s Office, a Graduation Audit will be conducted, solely for academic purposes to ensure that all graduation requirements have been met and that students are eligible for graduation. If you need any assistance, please contact Debbie Mumford 631-687-1413 or Laurie Seifert 631-687-1416 from the Registrar’s Office. **REQUIRED** FINANCIAL AID COUNSELING SESSION: If you have borrowed one or more Federal Stafford Loans (subsidized or unsubsidized) as an undergraduate/graduate student, you must complete the exit interview before graduation. This is a federal regulation and you must comply. You may complete the exit counseling requirement at www.studentloans.gov Financial Aid will receive an electronic confirmation that you have successfully completed the counseling. The deadline for this exit interview is May 15, 2018. *Please note: For additional information, contact the Office of Financial Aid at 631-687-2600. Spring semester (May 2018) failures of required courses must contact Sister Suzanne Franck in room N302 immediately to walk on May 30th. DEGREE WITH HONORS: The degree with honors is the highest accolade given by the College. The following criteria is required in order to be eligible for a degree with honors: • All undergraduates must have completed a minimum of 60 SJC credits at St. Joseph’s College, not more than 12 of which may be Pass/No Credit

• TR, DANTES, AP, CLEP and DSST are not included in the 60 credit residency

• Have a required cumulative GPA index of courses taken at St. Joseph’s College 3.9 for Summa Cum Laude 3.8 for Magna Cum Laude 3.7 for Cum Laude

The student will have the option of picking up the degree or having it mailed (for a $15 fee). Please note, you must have proper photo identification available to pick up your degree. Academic Attire: CAP, GOWN, TASSEL AND HOOD TASSELS Black………………All Students Gold………………..Members of the Student Government Association (SGA) Tassels should hang on the right side of the cap. Only regalia distributed from St. Joseph’s College is acceptable to be worn at Commencement. **CORDS: If you have earned any Honor Cords from SJC, you may wear them at the ceremony. Acceptable cords include; gold and white cords, red, white & blue military cords, and departmental honor cords.. You may also wear pins and medals that you have earned. **Gold Cords may be worn by undergraduates who have received General Honors. **Greek Life Stoles that contain Greek letters only, are able to be worn at the Commencement. **NSSLHA Stoles for all official NSSLHA members through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association are able to be worn at the Commencement. **SJC Star Athletes: Athletic pins provided by the athletic department may be worn at the Commencement. ** National Honor Societies All graduates that are members of Departmental National Honor Societies can choose to wear either the cord or the stole of that society upon the approval of the faculty moderator. **HOOD: You will have your hood placed on your shoulders by a member of the faculty.
