WELCOME BACK TO TERM 4
I trust everyone has had a great amount of rest and family time throughout the past few weeks. There were many happy, smiling faces to greet me on my morning classroom visit on Monday and the energy was up, ready to forge ahead this term.
BABY NEWS at GK
During the holidays we had three beautiful babies arrive into our GK family. The following staff and their families welcomed the babies into the world: Liz Blair (Performing Arts Teacher) had baby Harry, Karen ter Haar
(Assistant Principal) had baby Mathilda and Carla Di Lizio (Boost Program) welcomed baby Samuel. All mums and babies are doing extremely well and enjoying the tiring but magical first few months of parenthood.
HATS AND UNIFORM
Our Melbourne weather does not always support the SunSmart mindset we encourage at GK. We are a SunSmart school and do ask that all children wear a school council approved GK school hat every day from September. Even though the weather has been at times dull and cool, UV rays can still cause damage and the habit of wearing a hat when playing outside remains a priority. If your child does not have a hat outside they will be required to sit in an undercover area for the duration of the break. If you require a replacement hat please enquire at our uniform shop. A reminder also that our students are expected to be at school in full school uniform each day. If for any reason your child is not able to wear policy uniform we ask that you write a letter informing the classroom teacher of this and when your child will be back in school uniform.
2018 PLANNING AND REVIEW
Term four is a usually fast moving and full term where teachers and students work together to ‘polish’ the learning that has occurred and continue to scrape away at the potential that needs to be continually built for the following year. Whole school reviews are a key component of term four where we take time to evaluate and reflect on our pro-grams, current practice and refocus our intent for excellence. This week staff and stu-dents have had an opportunity to voice their thoughts on our current specialist programs offered, ranking their preferences about what they see as the most important to them. This information is being collated so that it can be used to identify whether what we are currently doing is on the mark. It will also assist in beginning to determine wheth-er we need to ‘think differently’ about what we offer in programs in 2018 and beyond so that our students receive excellent levels of learning and engagement across the school.
A slip is heading home to every family tomorrow providing the same opportunity for your feedback. I would love to hear from you, as our community views are critical in developing the best school we can for our students. Details will be on the slip so look out for this.
What do we Value? Acceptance Respect Resilience Responsibility Excellence
Our school wide conversations to start this term have focused on resetting our minds and actions around what is expected behavior and attitudes in our school. Simple reminders about safe and orderly movement around the school, getting to school and class on time, using manners (greeting a person with hello or not interrupting a conversation) and just being kind to others have been discussed. We all need daily reminders of this so continuing this incidental discussion at home will continue to embed the culture we value at GK.
Have a great week. LLLLeeeeaaaannnnnnnneeee

TOPSY TURVY DAY
Friday 20th October
Come dressed in odd socks, inside out jumpers, odd
shoes—basically everything upside down!
Fun and supporting kids in need—Thanks from JSC
Can you add to our WOW WALL? Our theme for the
next two weeks is the season of SPRING. As a family get your
thinking hats on and brainstorm your favourite SPRING WOW
WORDS. Bring them to school on a slip of paper with your
family name and grade on it. Post it in the WOW WORD BOX at
the office - I’ll add fabulous spring words to our WOW WALL for
others to soak up. I look forward to being wowed! Mrs Tingwell.
Some I thought of: invigorating blissful cloudless
