Avni Lifij He was born in Samsun in 1886. He was interest in

painting and music when he was at primary school.

His family moved to İstanbul and started to take

French lesson.

1898-1890 he was not able to attend school because

of illness.

1894 he attended anatomy classes in medical school

and physics in pharmacy school as a listener as well

as painting.

Some of his friends advised him to take his paintings

to Osman Hamdi Bey, a well known painter at that

time who liked selfportrait of young artist.

He get a scholarship and sent to Paris in 1906.

1909-1914 he became friends with painte Guillonnet

and Andre Lecomte Du Nouy starter to study in their

ateliers.

Then he was called book to İstanbul. He tough

French and painting.

Avni Lifij October 27 his copy of Luca Giordona’s

Mars and Venus the original of which is

in Louvre Museum, Paris was exhibited

in the school of fine arts with Works of

other artist.

In spring he joined the exhibition in

“Galatasaraylılar” with two portraits.

His article with title “Le Movement

Artistique”.

In autum he joined the exhibition of

“paintings of war and others”. With 20

paintings.

He was appointed instructor of

decorative arts of in the Academi of Fine

Arts.

Avni Lifij was invited to Paris again to

lecture of Mavrice Meys by himself.

He participated four exhibition in his life.

Osman Hamdi 1842-1910 - He was an Ottoman administrator,

intellectual art expert and also a prominet and

pioneering painter. He was also an accomplished

achgeolist. He was the founder of Istanbul

Archaelogy Museum and Academy of Fine Arts.

After high school he studied law.

But left the law and began to Show interested in

painting.

He trained under French orientalist painter Jean

Leon Gerome and Gustave Boulanger.

He stayed 9 years in Paris. His stay in paris was also

marked by the first visit by an Ottoman Sultan to

western Europe.

When Sultan Abdulaziz was invited by Emperor

Napoleon 3. He also met many of the young

ottomans in Paris and even though he was exposed

to their liberal ideas. He did not participate in their

political activities, being a son of Ottoman Pasha.

Osman Hamdi Bey met his first wife Maria, a French

woman in Paris.

1882 He bacame director of the

Academy of Fine Arts.

He contucted the first scientific based

archeological researches done by a

Turkish team.

His digs included sites Commagene

tomb, in Nemrut Mountain, Adıyaman.

( A top tourist venue in Turkey and

Unesco World Heritage Site today)

He build Istanbul Archaelogy Museum

in 1881.

During his professioanl career as

museum and academy director.

Osman Hamdi Bey contioned to paint

in the style of his French teachers –

Gerome and Boulanges.

The Tortoise Trainer (Turkish: Kaplumbağa

Terbiyecisi) is a painting by Osman Hamdi Bey

which was crafted in 1906 and 1907 (two

versions). In 2004 it was sold for $3.5M and is

currently displayed at the Pera Museum in

Istanbul.

In the Tortoise Trainer, Osman Hamdi Bey

cleverly satirises the slow and ineffective

attempts at reforming the Ottoman Empire,

through the attempts of an anachronistic

historical character to train tortoises. The

painting depicts an elderly man in traditional

Ottoman religious costume which predates the

introduction of the fez and the spread of

Western style dress with the Tanzimat reforms

in the mid 19th century. He holds a traditional

ney flute with which he is attempting to "train"

the tortoises at his feet.

He was born in Istanbul. When he was of primary

school he was interested in painting.

He opened an exhibition at his early age.

Ali Rıza after finishing fine arts. He began to work as an

art teacher. He had many painting about nature.

You can see many landscapes of Istanbul in his

painting.

He didnt have education abroad, so he didint emitate

any artist at that time.

In his works.

He painted by feeling the nature and without emitation

of other famous artist. So his paintings are very

valuable any make people comfortable in peace.

İbrahim ÇALLI

He was born in ÇAL village in İzmir.

Today ÇAL village is located in Denizli. He attempt the school

named Sanayi-i Nefise by the support of İbrahim ÇALLI in 1906.

After education in 1910, he was sent to Paris for art education

within a group Hikmet ONAT and Ruhi AREL.

This famous painter had education in L’ecole des Beaux Arts

Fernard Cormon artworkshop in Paris.

After 1st World war he returned to his country. He wanted to

make radical changes then he began to teach at many schools.

İbrahim ÇALLI has been know not only a good art teacher, but

also a famous artist.

He helped many students to be a famous artist. Such as Şeref

AKDİK, Saim ÖZVEREN, Elif Naci …

He died of gastric bleeding in 1960.

He had a classical education but supported to work free style

technique.

He has lots of Works as portraits, nudes, landscapes and still

life.

One of his paintings was sold nearly 2 M named Bostanci coast.

Ümit Aslan

Ümit ASLAN was born in Adıyaman in 1973. He moved

Malatya as his father was teaching there. Then he completed

his education life at Malatya university as a departure of art

at the age of 23.

His working life as an art teacher started Diyarbakır in

1996. He opened many exhibiton as amateur and

encouraged many students to become an artist.

He has been teaching as an art teaacher in Tarsus since

2001. Meanwhile he drew many portraits and began to show

interest photograpy...

He leaded to open an photograpy instuite in Tarsus and

directed it many years.

He joined many exhibitions and he opened MEHMET BAL

exhibition gallery in 2013.

His second indiviual exhibition was great at 75 art gallery in

Adana. He is also dealing with oil painting and cartoon.

He won the first prize as a cartoonist at istanbul Arel

University contest.

He has been a member of tarsus art gallery since then.
