Hobart is Tasmania’s capital and the

second oldest city in Australia. Nestled

on either side of the Derwent River at the

base of Mount Wellington, the city has

an intimate feel. Salamanca Markets

attract bargain hunters on Saturdays,

and the Constitution Dock area is lined

with restaurants and bars celebrating the

island’s quality produce.

Port Arthur lies in the far south-east

corner, where powerful waves break

along jagged shorelines. A penal

settlement established in 1830, the

site quickly grew into a working town,

with timber the main industry. The site

now stands as a museum, a reminder of

Australia’s harsh heritage.

Freycinet National Park boasts

spectacular pink granite boulders and

mountains, sweeping coastal vistas and

secluded beaches. Enjoy a guided walk

at Cape Tourville along the boardwalk

track with stunning views of the

coastline and Wineglass Bay.

Located at the head of the picturesque

Tamar Valley, Launceston enjoys a rich

cultural heritage as well as a thriving

food and wine scene set amongst

Georgian-style architecture. The area

boasts beautiful parks and gardens, as

well as natural attractions such as the

dramatic Cataract Gorge.

Cradle Mountain rises 1,545 metres

above Dove Lake and is Tasmania’s most

iconic scenic attraction. No journey

to the 'Apple Isle' would be complete

without viewing this remarkable rocky

outcrop. Strahan lies on the edge of

Macquarie Harbour and acts as the last

outpost on the western shores. Embark

on your included Gordon River Cruise

through the World Heritage-listed

western wilderness, where the river

opens to the Southern Ocean at Hell’s

Gate. Enjoy the wonderful perfomance

of 'The Ship that Never Was', your

included evening at the theatre.

Our luxury coaches will take you to

all of these must-see sights, including

meeting a Tasmanian Devil. Extensive

commentary and local knowledge will

help you to truly live the destination, not

just travel through it. We know you will

enjoy Evergreen Tasmania!

Port Arthur

Tasmania is a land of contrasts and surprises. From the rugged mountain scenery in the West to the beautiful beaches and coves of the East. From the wineries, rivers and rolling hills of the North to the convict heritage and rugged coastal cliffs of the South. A destination not often chosen, but forever remembered. Welcome to Tasmania!

Many of the region's culinary delights

can be sampled throughout your

Evergreen tour. From Launceston we

take you to Anvers Chocolate Factory

to taste their European-style softly

crafted chocolates. Ashgrove Cheese is

Australia’s premier producer of award

winning cheddar-style cheeses, all

crafted by hand on their farm.

Using the fi nest fruits produced in

Tasmania’s temperate climate, the

Tasmania Sauce Company blends

time-honoured recipes of delightful

sauces, conserves and condiments to

satisfy and stimulate your taste buds.

The region's cooler climate is ideal for

wine production and the Tamar Valley

near Launceston boasts award-winning

wineries that combine nicely with farm-

style cheeses and grain fed produce.

In Bicheno, on the beautiful East

Coast, sample the daily crayfi sh catch

(seasonal), and enjoy local delicacies

with sumptuous included dinners in

Launceston, Cradle Mountain and

Strahan. At Port Arthur look forward

to home cooked traditional dining,

while in Hobart you are treated to

the lively atmosphere of Constitution

Dock. Your included farewell dinner

is at the Drunken Admiral Restaurant

which is stocked with an abundance

of maritime memorabilia to delight

the enthusiast.

On Saturdays in Hobart, Salamanca

Market comes alive with over 300

stallholders selling fresh and gourmet

food, as well as arts and handicrafts

from all over Tasmania. For brewing

enthusiasts, a tour of the Cascade

Brewery captures Tasmania's quality

lager, draught beer & ciders.

Our new Huon Valley and Hobart

optional tour also samples a local

bakery and a historic pub.

Your Evergreen Tasmania experience

will certainly enhance your culinary

tastes, as well as open your eyes to the

magnifi cent produce of the 'Apple Isle'.

Local wine and produce

Tasmania’s wonderful fresh produce comes from fertile soils, pure rainfall and the clear waters of the Tasman Sea and Southern Ocean. Each region of the island boasts its own specialties – wholesome farm and dairy produce from the North West, fresh seafood from cold, clean West Coast waters, grapes ripened in East Coast vineyards and apples perfected in the cool crisp climate of the south.

On each tour page look out

for the hotel icon symbols,

Frequently Asked Questions

How much luggage can I take with me? The luggage allowance whilst on tour is one suitcase with a maximum size of 76 x 53 x 28 centimetres (30’’ x 21’’x 11’’) and weight of 20 kilograms. You may also carry a small overnight bag or the Evergreen Tours issued backpack on board the coach for the duration of the tour. Additional bags beyond the Baggage Allowance may incur additional charges and are to be settled directly to the hotel or as required.

What will the weather be like? Tasmanian weather is unpredictable. Though summer temperatures average a comfortable 20º Celsius it can unexpectedly snow in December. In winter and autumn average temperatures are 12º Celsius. Spring is warm, but bring extra clothing for the evenings. Tasmania's summer days are wonderfully long - at midsummer, daylight lasts more than 15 hours.

Do I need to tip? On all Evergreen tours, tipping, porterage and gratuities are all included in the price.

Are there laundry facilities available? Most hotels Evergreen Tours stay at have coin-operated washing machines and dryers. Most machines take one dollar and 20 cent coins. Laundry powder is available from most receptions.

Is it ok if I have special dietary requirements? You can advise us when booking if you have any dietary requirements. We do ask that what you request remains constant for the full tour.

What clothing is suitable for this tour? Due to changeable weather conditions, packing for your Tasmanian tour requires a certain amount of flexibility. It may be warmer or cooler than normal and you may be travelling through different climates so dressing in layers is highly recommended for versatility. When packing adopt a simple colour coordination plan to reduce quantity of clothes and shoes required. Travelling light is recommended. Recent research has shown that only 30% of holiday travellers wear everything they pack. The best advice for packing is "if in doubt – leave it out".

How long will the travel days be? In Tasmania Evergreen Tours use luxury coaches which have recliner seats, air conditioning, an on board toilet and sound systems. Although the days on our itineraries are quite full to allow many inclusions for you, the driving time between these sights are not long, usually no more than an hour or two. The only exception to this is the drive day out to Stanley to see ‘The Nut’ which is a little longer.

How much walking will I be asked to do? There are quite a few walking tours of the various sights you visit, and we do include a guided walk in Freycinet National Park and to Dove Lake at Cradle Mountain. None of these are overly strenuous, however if you have

diffi culty with mobility you can choose to not do the walks.

Where there is no lunch or dinner provided what will be my options? Your Tour Director and Coach Driver will advise you of the best places to eat for lunches and dinners that are not included. Normally this is a stop in a town for lunch or on a free night in Hobart or Launceston where there are plenty of choices.

Who will my fellow travellers be? Evergreen Tours accepts all ages on our tours, although it is rare for children to be on board. We cater mainly to the Australian and New Zealand markets and our usual age groups are between 50 and 70 years of age.
