The City of Women International Festival of Contemporary Arts presents the creativity of female artists from all around the world, from those who are still asserting themselves to world-famous names. The City of Women, which has been enriching the cultural scene of Ljubljana for more than two decades, is characterised by its attitude towards experimentation and crossing genre boundaries, as well as by social criticism, mostly based on the principles of feminism. The programme features a variety of events, from concerts to art exhibitions, installations, theatre and dance shows and performances, which often break taboos and challenge the established definitions of gender and gender identities.

Shamanism of the peoples of Siberia18 Apr - 20 Oct, Slovenian Ethnographic MuseumThe exhibition Shamanism of the Peoples of Siberia, from the Russian Museum of Ethnography, Saint Petersburg, reveals a unique phenomenon in world civilisation - the mythological worldview of the peoples of Siberia and the Russian Far East in the late 19th and early 20th century - carried out by shamans, as intermediaries between heaven and earth.Sacred objects, together with photographs, sounds and a film of shamanic ecstatic rituals, reflect the special interconnectedness found in the inspiring characteristics of Siberian shamanism, which is made manifest in the inseparable link between man, nature and cultural tradition. Open: 10:00 - 18:00. Closed: Mondays

The permanent exhibition at the Plečnik House in Trnovo presents the most important projects of the late architect. Plečnik’s creativity comes to life through the plans, models and photographs of his creations such as the Zacherl House in Vienna, Prague Castle, the National and University Library in Ljubljana, the Ljubljana Central Market, Žale Cemetery, the Church of St. Michael at the Ljubljana Marshes and numerous other masterpieces. Several plans of Plečnik’s never realized visions are also on display. The Cathedral of Freedom, the master’s vision of the Slovenian parliament, is especially worthy of our attention.Guided tours: every hour, on the hour (the last guided tour at 17:00). A group may be a maximum of seven persons.Open: 10:00 - 18:00. Closed: Mondays
Zoran Mušič (1909-2005)Permanent exhibition at the National GalleryZoran Mušič, the best known 20th century Slovenian-born painter and a man with more than one homeland, spent most of his life between Venice and Paris. He mostly painted landscapes, still lives, portraits, Dalmatian donkeys and horses, trees, views of Venice, double portraits with his wife Ida, and poignant self-portraits depicting him as an old man. His visual motifs were always related to the Slovenian region of Kras and its typical scenes. He became world famous with his series of paintings We Are Not the Last, in which he relived the scenes he experienced in the Dachau concentration camp. Ljubljana’s National Gallery displays the world’s only permanent survey exhibition of Mušič’s work, which explores the entire range of the famous artist’s painting techniques. Open: 10:00 - 18:00, Thursdays 10:00-20:00. Closed: Mondays

The programme of Castle Music features three concerts by renowned singers, musicians and ensembles, all of whom share a passion for the connection of classical and popular music. Although she expresses her creativity in the style of contemporary electronic pop, Raiven draws part of her inspiration from the field of classical music. Three trained opera singers, Zala Hodnik, Urška Kastelic and Eva Pavli, will collaborate with classical musicians and DJ JAMirko to present the one-off project Tosca Beat, in which opera singing and classics are blended with urban rhythms and popular club electronic music. The closing concert will feature Anja Bukovec, an internationally renowned violinist and superb musician, skilled in the unique interweaving of classical, pop, ethno and film music.

The founder and undisputed commander of the thunderous Swans Michael Gira is coming back as with a solo acoustic show. He’s joined on tour by a special guest, his Swans compatriot and influential guitarist Norman Westberg with his own solo acoustic performance. The legendary New York band Swans has carved an unmistakeable mark on rock music since its formation in the 1980s, with their raw experimental rock and complex soundscapes influencing countless other acts, from Nirvana and Melvins to Tool and Neurosis. But despite the enviable array of excellent musicians who played in the bend through the decades, its driving force, shaman supreme, chieftain and conductor is without a doubt the unmistakeable Michael Gira.
