www.sheffield.ac.uk/ris/publicengagement/mrcfestival

Come along and find out how the latest medical research at the University of Sheffield is improving people’s lives with a range of activities, exhibits and demonstrations from leading researchers including:

The University of Sheffield does Question Time…Who Decides the Future – Science, Politics or the People?Wednesday 12 July, 6pm, Sheffield Town Hall

Come and join us for an exciting debate in which guests from the worlds of politics, the media and academia, answer questions posed by members of the public.

In our interconnected and technologically advanced world, science is often seen as vital to securing our future wellbeing: identifying threats and producing innovative solutions. Yet recent political events and ideological shifts have led some to believe our faith in science, the experts, and traditional politicians is waning. Who has the power to decide where our societies are heading, and what is the right balance between scientific progress, democratic oversight and political leadership?

Confirmed speakers include Professor Fiona Kumari Campbell (University of Dundee), James Lock (Managing Director at not-for-profit Opus Independents Ltd) and Professor Dan Sarewitz (Arizona State University).
