What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
3Finding the audience.
Because we wanted to portray the target audience in our soap trailer, we decided to aim our soap at students around 15-25. We then decided the channel most likely to broadcast our soap and appeal to our target audience would be E4.
“E4 is the UK’s most-watched digital channel amongst 16-34 year olds”
“All of our commissions will be fun, possibly mischievous, witty and some may even be slightly irresponsible”
Target audience is similar to E4’s demographic
E4’s characters are similar to ours, and could easily to relatable to other characters on E4’s other programmes as well as our target audience.

Which product do you think is the most effective form of advertising?
3Research into similar products
I used the E4 and channel 4 webpage to look at existing products aimed at my age range. From this I found the social issues my audience would be able to relate to, and the stereotypes they enjoyed seeing in TV soaps and series.
3Audience feedback- Trailer
For my audience feedback I got my class to watch my soap opera trailer and tell me anything they liked, or anything they felt I could improve on
“I like the genre created by the soundtrack, but it could be edited to make thought beats”
“ The soundtrack builds up as the action builds up”
“It’s clear the soap will be played on E4”
“Some of the characters appear to be jumping around the set- it is not clear what's happening when”
“The title cards anchor the meaning of some of the scenes, but they could involve the audience more and ask questions”
“I could relate to the narrative, and felt part of the soap from the camera work used”
3Audience feedback- Improvements
To improve my trailer from the feedback gained, I decided I would add questions to more of the title cards to involve the audience. I also moved round some of the clips so it was clearer where characters such as Kate were suppose to be, and what was happening. From doing this the trailer became clearer for the audience and they were more likely to want to watch it.
I swapped these two clips around because in my first draft it looked like the character Kate was walking away and then suddenly back talking to Mason.
3Audience feedback- Magazine
Magazine final draft 1 After completing our final magazine draft, we asked people to tell us what they liked and didn’t like about it.
“I thought The Grove and Freshers were the same soap”
“The magazine blends together too much because the colours aren’t very contrasting”
“The cover stars don’t stand out”
“The cover stars don’t look made up enough”
3Audience feedback- Magazine improvements
Magazine final draft 2 After gathering our audience feedback we decided that for our magazine to be effective we would have to change a lot of aspects of it.
We separated the features for The grove and Freshers into separate boxers so people would not be confused
On Photoshop, we edited the cut under Ellie’s chin out and using the healer tool removed some of Liam's spots. This was too make it more like a current soap magazine where the characters look realistically aspiration. We also increased the contrast on Ellie’s photo to make her stand out more
Lastly we changed the background and masthead colour scheme.
