Lailarni is the first student from Evans River to be involved in this program. Head-Start allows Year 11 and 12 students to undertake a unit of study at Southern Cross as part of their senior studies. Students are in normal classes with fulltime university students. By completing the Head-Start program, students are offered automatic entry into a number of University degrees after successfully completing their Year 12 school studies. Lailarni studied Biology and was awarded a Distinction grade which is an outstanding result! She is now going to study a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at SCU Gold Coast campus. Congratulations Lailarni! Chris Hayward, Careers Adviser Kindergarten Write About Visiting the Ag Farm Olley’s Big Adventure: “I saw a goat and I saw a chicken. I saw a plover and it was flying. I saw a goat sneeze and I saw a rainbow lorikeet. I saw a cranky plover. We saw a crow and we heard a rooster. We saw a grey plover and we saw an eagle.” Olley Spencer Amelie’s Adventure: “I went on a lovely walk and I saw some goats and they were fighting and they followed us. The goats were white and the other one was brown. We saw a plover. The plover was brown. The plover was angry. That was the best walk ever and that was fabulous!” Amelie Lawrence. Heidi’s Adventrue: “I went and saw two goats, they were fighting and fighting. We saw a hen, it was saying broak, I didn’t want to touch it. The hen was walking slow. We were walking for a long, long time. It took us a little while.” Heidi McLeod. Yahburri’s Adventure: “I went for a long walk. I saw a white goat. He spat at me and Storm. He lives in a farm.” Yahburri Wilson. Jake’s Adventure: “Today I went for a lovely walk and I saw a goat. The goat was white and they were fighting. Then I saw the plover. It was angry at us and she was trying to keep her babies safe. The rainbow lorikeet was in a tree and it was looking at me. The chicken had a red mohawk.” Jake Gow.

Southern Cross University – Head-Start Congratulations to Lailarni Walker who recently

graduated from SCU’s Head-Start program.

Lailarni is the first student from Evans River to

be involved in this program.

Head-Start allows Year 11 and 12 students to

undertake a unit of study at Southern Cross as

part of their senior studies. Students are in

Storm’s Adventure: “I went for a walk and saw a rainbow lorikeet fly to the

Morgan’s Adventure: “We saw goats and it spat on me. The goat was hairy

and they were fighting. It was white and it only had one horn. It said baa baa.

It only had two toes and then they started fighting and pushing. “ Morgan

Lloybron’s Adventure: “I saw a big goat. He spat with spit at me. I saw a fight.”

Stage 5 Examinations Examination in Years 9 & 10 will be in the gym next week. Students are asked

to ensure that they arrive promptly and that they bring all necessary

equipment with them to assist in their examination success. Items required

include:

A minimum of two blue or black pens

A red pen

Two lead pencils

A ruler, eraser, sharpener and

A Board approved (working) calculator

Normal lessons will take place before or after each examination session.

Students should ensure that they also have the necessary books for their

scheduled lessons. The exam timetable is listed below:

Years 9/10 Wellbeing Day Tuesday 11th September, years 9/10 participated

in Wellbeing Day. We had a number of guest

speakers present workshops on topics such as

healthy relationships, mental health, team work,

domestic violence and self care. The students had

a wonderful day. Thank you to all involved in

making the day such a success!

Gap Year A "Gap Year" is where you take a "year off"

after your secondary schooling to do something else before you undertake

further education and training (or full time employment).

Normally, people travel, work part time or do volunteer work, or a combination

of these.

It is now a common practice to defer university for a year and undertake these

activities before commencing university the following year. Students often use

this time to work to gain "independent status" before going to university,

however, I suggest you visit the Centrelink website to check on the current

guidelines for this.

District is promoting a photography

competition for Primary and High School

students. Photos can be taken from a

digital camera or phone. The themes of

the photographs should promote a

‘Healthy Life – Healthy You’.

There are great prizes to be won

including: a family holiday, digital

cameras, iPad and cash to improve the

school canteen.
