A product ion company may be d i rec t ly respons ib le for ra i s ing the funds for the product ion o f the fi lm.

Dis t r ibut ion i s the process o f br ing ing a fi lm in to the movie market which i s made ava i lab le to watch fo r an aud ience . There i s now more compet i t ion fo r d i s t r ibut ion companies . The b ig fi ve cong lomerate companies are 20th century fox , warner bros , Wal t D i sney, paramount and FOX.

Product ion Company: I be l ieve that my group’s thr i l l e r fi lm i s un ique that ’s why I th ink that the product ion

company for our thr i l l e r fi lm can be 20th century fox because i t shares the typ ica l convent ions o f a thr i l l e r but the overa l l theme i s d iff erent . 20 th century fox have produced fi lms such as ‘Taken’ , ‘Transpor te r 2 ’ and ‘H i tman’ . Taken shares some typ ica l convent ions wh ich re late to our thr i l l e r product ion for example the main charac te r ‘K im’ who was p layed by Maggie grace , who in the fi lm was taken by A lger ian woman t raffi ckers . The emot ions that are por t rayed in the fi lm p lay a key ro le to why I be l ieve th i s par t i cu lar fi lm has a d i rec t re lat ion to my thr i l l e r product ion , as most emot ion are d i s t ress , confus ion and a sense o f power lessness towards the antagonis ts .

The reason why I have dec ided that our thr i l l e r open ing i s a b lockbuste r i s because the s ty le o f i s l i ke other thr i l l e r product ions a l so we use typ ica l convent ions that are used by peop le l i ke A l f red H i tchcock, a l so through the characte rs wh ich wou ld appear la te r on in the fi lm which would he lp the thr i l l e r product ion for example most fi lms use we l l known actors in order to draw an aud ience . So we are go ing to do the same th ing but t ry and keep the product ion Br i t i sh by hav ing a we l l known actor l i ke Chr i s t ian ba le .

Afte r my thr i l l e r fi lm ‘The Photographer ’ leaves the c inema screens , I wou ld take the fi lm to d is t r ibut ing companies in Eng land, fo r example UK’s number one enter ta inment company B lockbuste r , as they a l low consumers to buy or even rent fi lms o f the i r choos ing meaning my thr i l l e r fi lm cou ld make a respectab le profi t f rom premier open ings r ight towards the end o f the l i f e span o f my thr i l l e r fi lm, a l so b lockbuste r has a great re la t ionsh ip w i th our target aud ience wh ich i s 16-24 year o lds , th i s w i l l he lp as w ider aud ience cou ld be in t roduced to the thr i l l e r fi lm. To make sure I keep up w i th modern t imes o f techno logy I wou ld use synergy to d is t r ibute my thr i l l e r fi lm in B lu - ray in order to prov ide the best v iewing exper ience to my aud ience , dur ing the process o f ge t t ing ‘The Photographer ’ on to the she lves o f B lockbuste r we wou ld a l so use on l ine web 2 .0 to d i s t r ibute our fi lm on l ine , us ing Netfl ix , Love fi lm and Amazon pr ime , th i s w i l l hope fu l ly gather a w ider aud ience around the wor ld .

The target aud ience i s very impor tant th i s i s a pr ior i ty ; a target aud ience cou ld be for example adu l ts . The target aud ience needs to be dec ided be fore post product ion and pre -product ion . So our pr imary aud ience i s 16 -24 year o lds , as the charac te r i s a l so young th i s would be a good range for our aud ience , then we dec ided to choose our secondary aud ience . Who would be a imed at peop le o lder for example 25-30 but th i s may be the s tages when i t ’ s on DVD as i t a l l ows us to d i s t r ibute the thr i l l e r product ion at a la rger sca le . Our thr i l l e r i s based on a schoo l g i r l who i s be ing hunted menta l l y by a schoo l teacher so th i s s tory l ine can exer t infl uence on the o lder ind iv idua ls as nowadays i t ’ s k ind o f become someth ing that we hear o f in the news for example there was an ar t i c le on a newspaper which s tated that a known paedoph i le went undetec ted when apply ing for a job at a schoo l , so th i s cou ld be an infl uence to why an o lder aud ience might be drawn to th i s thr i l l e r fi lm. A secondary aud ience i s v i ta l because i t can ac t as a backup p lan in case o f an i ssue w i th the or ig ina l aud ience , for example the secondary aud ience would be peop le who are aged 25 -30 as people at that age are more focused what 's go ing on around them, then someone younger. A l so we gathered th i s idea through news ar t i c les and current aff a i rs , wh ich ensures that o thers have seen these ar t i c les which w i l l he lp us ga in a broader aud ience .

4. WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT?

Page 5: Evaluation questions 3,4,5 and 7

To at t ract our audience we made sure that our opening was very enterta in ing but at the same t ime something dark and atmospher ic . We att racted our audience by s imply making a fi lm about something which the audience have a l l exper ienced so we dec ided to locate i t in a school , but then we dec ided to switch i t up by suggest ing that there is a predator w i th in the school who is tak ing images of female students . Th is w i l l a t t ract the audience as I would hope that everyone in UK has had the pr iv i lege to at tend a school , so th is which wi l l add to the suspense and feel ing they would receive f rom watching the thr i l ler product ion.

My group wanted the thr i l ler fi lm opening to re late to the audience by address ing what would make people feel uncomfortable the most , so we dec ided to choose an Idea that people would be speaking of or go ing to near ly every day of the i r l i fe , so wi th that in mind we dec ided a secondary school would be the best p lace to locate our thr i l ler opening, as th is would concern parents which opens our thr i l ler opening to a wider target audience and a lso wi th the main character who is portrayed as a young student , who would at t ract the audience as the target audience for our thr i l ler fi lm opening is 16-24 year o lds so hav ing th is young, power less g i r l which goes wi th a l l s tereotypes i l lustrated by most thr i l lers would help at t ract our audience.

5. HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ ADDRESS YOUR AUDIENCE?

This is a shot we used in our thriller opening. We used this in order to add suspense and to confuse the audience as of the way we used it for example we have the main character walking in to school and then we get a shot of a lab coat and someone pouring a chemical like substance.

The colour of the screen also helped as it allowed us to follow many of the typical conventions which are portrayed in thrillers for example having a dark, sinister look to the shot which helps draw in an audience.

In the pre l im inary task we were to ld to comple te a shor t c l ip in groups that we were ab le to p ick on our own but to keep in mind that th i s group wou ld be the group that we s tar t our ac tua l thr i l l e r product ion pro jec t w i th , so for me th i s was a rea l l y exc i t ing task as I en joy produc ing a p iece o f work that I can ca l l m ine . Our teacher gave us the oppor tun i ty to choose our own scenar io prov id ing we use the shot types wh ich we prac t i sed ear l i e r. (The shots we needed to inc lude have been exp la ined in a prev ious b log post . ) The group and I came to conc lus ion a fte r many d iff erent ideas to base the pre l im inary on a s tudent get t ing bu l l i ed wh i le in schoo l . Dur ing the pre l im inary task I was respons ib le for d i rec t ing the pre l im as we l l as p lay ing the charac ter ge t t ing bu l l i ed .

Look ing back at the pre l im inary task I l earnt about the 180 degree ru le , wh ich was not c lear to me at fi rs t a f te r fi lming some shots I found why the ru le was impor tant . I have learnt d iff erent ways o f exper iment ing wi th d iff erent shots and fi nd ing ways to enhance the shots mak ing i t more innovat ive . I have learnt how to work in a team eff ect ive ly to accompl i sh your goa l . We a l l had d iff erent tasks to do , we a l l d id them and we were success fu l in fi n i sh ing our thr i l l e r. As a group I th ink we have learnt to share ideas and work we l l as a group. I have a l so learnt use fu l ed i t ing techn iques wh ich I made sure to use in our thr i l l e r open ing for example whi le I was ed i t ing I i nc luded a montage shot which he lped add to the atmosphere o f the thr i l l e r product ion .

Example o f the 180 degree ru le :

7. LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM

IT TO THE FULL PRODUCT?

This is an example of us using the 180 degree rule on our preliminary.
