Evaluation Question 6WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT?

Camera In the process of creating our opening sequence, I have used a range of technologies that I had never used before. For example, the camera.

The benefits of using a digital camera include being able to see what you’ve recorded straight away.

Being able to record as much as you want without worrying about running out of memory, which was helpful as it was better for us to have too much footage, rather than not enough.

Having the capability of being able to delete whatever you want/need to immediately.

The only negative we experienced when using the camera was the fact that it didn’t have a very good batter life.

Mac’s Another technology I learnt to use was the Mac’s. I had never used a Mac until the beginning of this year however:

I found them easy to learn to use

And useful to help organise our work.

The only disadvantage of using the Mac’s is that there wasn’t enough memory on them.

Final Cut Express This was a very good programme to use to edit our footage as there were a lot of options and when cutting our clips to be the right lengths etc.

We were able to be very specific when cutting clips, which made our opening as accurate as possible.

A disadvantage of Final Cut Express was that it took a while to render and we frequently had to render it in order for us to check how our video looked in progress.

Also, it was quite difficult to figure out how to use it as it was so complex.

Garage Band Another programme made available to us through the Mac’s was Garage Band.

This was incredibly useful in order to create the music for our opening as there was such a range of music, so we were able to select the pieces of music that sounded best when put together, in order to create a piece that sound as Sci-Fi as possible.

A disadvantage was that it was initially difficult to understand how to use.

YouTube We used YouTube in order to upload our videos as it the perfect platform to do so, such as the preliminary task, our pitch and pitch feedback.

Also, in order to look up how to do certain things on Final Cut Express. For example, how to create a split screen.

Finally, we used it in the researching and planning stage to gain inspiration and ideas from other people’s videos.

We intended to then embed our videos onto our blog from YouTube, however we were unable to as they wouldn’t render or upload.

Blogger We created a blog on the website Blogger, which was easy to use and a great place to upload and keep track of all of our work.

It was also good as you can keep it easily organised (through using tags to separate work between the people in our group and to organise into ‘research’ and ‘planning’, for example. Through using tags it also made it easier to find specific pieces of work quickly and easily.)

We could also personalise it to co-ordinate our blog with the theme of our opening. (By changing the background image, for example.)

The only negatives of Blogger is that it didn’t let us upload videos and the pictures and blog posts weren’t always central/ in line and we were unaware of how to change it.

Scribd I learnt how to use Scribd in the research and planning stage of creating our final product. I used it to upload Word documents to then embed onto our Blog.

I found it incredibly easy to learn to use and very helpful for embedding my work due to the fact that as soon as I uploaded a Word Document, it gave me the option to embed straight away.

The website itself was very organised and again it was easy to find my work once I’d uploaded it.

The only negative is that it looks quite simple once uploaded.

SlideShare Finally, I used SlideShare in order to upload PowerPoints onto our Blog.

Similarly to Scribd, I found it easy to use and again, easy to embed onto our Blog.

However I found the website itself quite unorganised and not as clear/easy to find my work once I’d uploaded it.
