Evaluation Question 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

In the construction of my media product there has been several different technologies that have helped me and they are InDesign, Photoshop, Google, Digital camera, Blogger, Prezi and Powerpoint/Slideshare.

InDesign

Adobe InDesign was the main piece of software that helped me to construct my media product. I was able to create my music magazine front cover, contents page and double page article all using this software. We started with a our preliminary task which was our school magazines’ front cover then school magazines’ contents page, so I was to practise and learnt how to use the different tools and abilities in InDesign, then I move on to the actual media product that I was going to make I started with drafts of each of the pages and as time went on I slowly change and developed the pages and made the pages better. InDesign made this process really easy to create and modify each individual page. I believe that if I didn’t have this software then it would of been impossible for me to create and develop the magazine pages like I have.

PhotoshopAdobe Photoshop was the next software I used to help create my media product. I have never used Photoshop before so I was completely terrible at using it. I used Photoshop for editing my images for the three magazine pages. I started using Photoshop on the preliminary task of the school magazine where I learnt how to crop images to the size that I wanted them and learnt how to erase the background of the image and also how to rotate the images to the correct way up. I had developed my skills of using this software which had me able to quickly get my images edited and finished faster than in my preliminary task. I had developed my skills enough so that I was able to add effects to my main image of my music magazine front cover. I needed this software or otherwise this product wouldn’t be as good.

BloggerI have never heard of Blogger before AS media studies. So I didn’t know anything but I found it simple to use after a couple of lessons. We were first introduced to Blogger before we started our preliminary task so we could get use to recording all that we were doing on to blogger and we posted our research of other real media products, for me it was Kerrang!, Classic Rock and Sound Rock which helped me get to grips with how to use this piece of software. Once I knew how to use blogger probably I start to post the individual steps of making my preliminary task (school magazine pages). After December we started to create and post the steps and all the way till the final copy of the actual task (music magazine pages). I have used three different ways to post on blogger a normal blog post, slideshare and prezi, I have mostly used nomal blog post. Now I am posting the evaluation questions on to blogger also using these three different types of blogging

Prezi

Prezi was another way of posting on blogger this it better to look at then the normal blog post and creates range of different ways of looking at information. Prezi is different to the over two ways of loading and posting information onto blogger. I used prezi in my research and planning this was when we started to use prezi I have used Prezi in the past so I knew how to use it but didn’t know how to put it on to the blog but with some help I got there. I have also used it for some of the evaluation questions.

PowerPoint / Slideshare

PowerPoint and slideshare I started using for my own target audience research which helped me understand how to use slideshare because I never used slideshare before AS media studies but I had used PowerPoint in lower ends of the school. I used PowerPoint to create and design the pages or slides and then I used slideshare to get them on to my blog by using the embed tool that is give after you have uploaded it to slideshare. PowerPoint makes it easy to create a presentation of your work and it’s quite fast.

Digital CameraThe digital camera was one of the most useful out of the ones that I have said because this was the equipment that we all took our photos on. I used the digital camera for all of my asks from the preliminary task (school magazine) to the actual task (music magazine). We started using the cameras in the preliminary task this help me in particular to develop me camera skills because when I started I had no camera skills and probably still don’t. Once I had finished the preliminary task then it was time to move on to the actual task and as I got better at using the camera the images were better but sadly the lighting in some of the images could of been better. I didn’t just use the digital camera for the man image also the subsidiary images also have been taken by a digital camera (just to be obvious). I did improve at using the digital camera as shown in all of the different styles of the camera shots or some examples the long wide shot, medium shot, long medium shot, long shot and a wide shot these are all the ones I used in all three of the pages.

GoogleGoogle was very useful with finding real magazine pages for me to research in my research and planning stage at the start of the year. I have use Google before As media studies but I never used parts of it like slideshare and blogger (I know there not a part of google). Google helped me find the magazine that I used to get my ideas from for example ‘Empire’ magazine an also ‘Kerrang!’ Magazine. If it wasn’t for Google I would of never found these magazines and then magazine wouldn’t look anything like a magazine. We first used google in our work was with the research and planning stage where we had to find and analyse them. Google has also helped me in doing this presentation my finding all the icons that I needed to do this for examples Blogger, Prezi and Photoshop. Google has also helped me locate and find Blogger, Prezi and Slideshare.
