What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Survey Monkey

After I created my survey I then posted the link to it on Facebook and Tumblr so

my friends could fill it in. In total 22 people filled in my survey and I got a

good set of results that helped me get an idea of the things I needed to include

in my music magazine.

When doing my research on music magazines I used a website called

Survey Monkey. It helps you to create a survey that you can then publish on the internet so people

can fill it in.

I found that Survey Monkey was a bit hard to use, and it was difficult to see how to post the link onto facebook. But after I’d got the hang of it, I found it very easy and useful. It was a good way of getting a

good range of results.

The camera I used to do all of the photography in my music magazine was a Fujifilm S5700.

I’ve had this camera for about 3 years now, so I already knew how to use it. I didn’t have any

problems with using it, so the photo taking process went pretty smoothly and quickly.

Below you can see some examples of how my images turned out (they’re not edited at this stage). For these images, I made my subject stand against a plain white background; this was so most of the focus was on her, and not the surroundings. I did find it hard to get the right lighting. But in the end I ended up just using the

flash on the camera to get the picture a bit lighter. Also having the flash on makes the colour of her eyes and lips

stand out so much more.

Photoshop Cs2The desktop publishing software I used to create my front cover,

contents page and features page was Photoshop Cs2.

At first I found Photoshop really difficult to use as I’d only ever used it for quickly editing a few photos; nothing too difficult or complicated. I had to teach myself how to use the software before I could even begin, which did use up a lot of my time I think. After I had practised using Photoshop a bitI was able to do effects, such as ColourReplacement, Background Eraser, etc...It also took me a while to get used to all the layers in the images, it gets quite Confusing because you have to get them inthe right order.

The next couple of slides will show how I learnt how to edit the photos so I could get the right effect I was looking for.

Here is an example of how I edited one of my images:

As you can see in the first image, the light that I had on in the room made the image go a bit yellow/orange in the bottom right hand corner. I thought I was going to have to re-take the photo, but then I found a tool on Photoshop called the Colour Replacement

tool. This allows you to select whichever colour you want, and colour in areas that same colour.

As you can see in the second image, I also played around with the colours as well. I tried to give it a slightly ‘vintage’ or ‘old’ look. It took me quite a while to figure out

how to do that effect (I did have to use a tutorial on the internet to help me do a little bit of it), but I got the hang of it after a while. I ended up doing the same effect on every picture from this photoshoot so they’d all go with each other on the page.

Blogger

Obviously Blogger is the website I have used to post all my work on. Overall I have found it very easy to use, even though to start off with it took me a while to figure out how to use it. I already use a blog site called Tumblr, which is extremely easy to use, everything is all set out on one page and it’s easy to get around. So going from that to Blogger was quite hard, because I didn’t really know how to get around on the site! Also, I found that it was really slow, especially when I was trying to upload an image onto a post. But other than that I found it quite easy to use.

SlideshareSlideshare is a site that allows you to put power points onto your blog. I found this site extremely helpful for putting my power point onto Blogger. It’s really simple and easy. All you have to do once you’ve uploaded the file onto Slideshare is click the “Blogger” button on the side and it automatically connects with Blogger. I didn’t have any problems with this site at all, and it was very simple to use.
