• The first thing that I had to do was to record the footage using my video camera. It taught me the importance of having an organised plan ahead of shooting. I also learnt to shoot lots of different angles and cutaways in order to have more options when editing the piece together.

Cameras• I used three different cameras to achieve the hand-held and regular footage. This

was a Cannon 6OD, Panasonic and Olympus Pen Series

• Using the was harder to use because I felt it went out of focus quite often. However, it was lighter and more flexible and provided many options for particularly filters and settings. It also gave me a choice of frames for filming the footage in which was more creative and artistic.

• Filming with a tripod was hard to get used to as it was wobblier than I had expected. I had to spend time, which I had not accounted for, ensuring that the tripod was stable and would support the camera. Also, the camera was an older model which meant that it was not as technologically advanced thus I had to thoroughly check each scene which I recorded to ensure it was useable.

• In contrast, I also used a hi tech camera which had a significantly better quality picture than the other ones that I used. It was particularly large which made it harder to maneuver.

Adobe Premiere Pro CS3Using the Adobe Premiere Pro CS3

has been a sharp learning curve for me as prior to this project I had never used it before. I worked through online tutorials to teach myself techniques and through trial and error learnt new ways of editing clips together.

• It was a struggle understanding how to get the material from the camera onto Adobe but with some assistance I was able to do it. Furthermore, they showed me editing techniques such as using strobe lighting for the scenes after Ben and Anna.

Sound Effects• I used Freesound.org software in order to add

extra depth to my film. Sound is just as important as vision in the editing process. It helps the audience to become more drawn into the artificial world you’ve created on the screen. Adobe Premier offered many different types of effects from pre-recorded to audio from a song.

• I found that playing around with the timing of certain audio clips was challenging. I enjoyed combining sound effects with songs as they often worked well to emphasise a particular feeling or emotion.

Celtx (script software)• Celtx was used to format the words for the script for the

actors. It helped them to know what they were going to say and how I wanted them to move from looking at the script. It was easy to use as I had guidance using it, but I lacked experience in script writing and had to adopt this new style. I had to breakdown words that I would normally use for an essay and instead replace them with conversational language. For example, when Nikki is talking to her husband on the handheld camera it’s more colloquial and chatty and so it was hard to script this and in fact I encouraged her to adlib in bits too which I added to the script in Celtx. It was a useful software because it made the words presentable and functional.

Blogger (online software)• Blogger enabled me to write a diary style account of my

research, ideas, development and processes while partaking in the media course. This software enabled me to present multi-media in one organised project space. For example, I often incorporated video, photos and text in one assessment of my film project.

• The software was often frustrating because it does not have the auto save function. I learnt from this by writing analysis in Microsoft Word and then copying it over. Moreover, it was difficult formatting within this programme be cause it did not move text easily around pictures or video clips. However, I like the open access nature of the programme, which enabled classmates and teachers to read my work as it was a part of the Fine Arts media network. As I have a fast Internet speed I was also able to work quickly in updating it.

• I found this software easy to use and enjoyed the creative options it provided.

• It enabled me to express points in a visual manner and to illustrate each piece of analysis.

Slide Share• Slide Share enabled me to embed and

publish my presentations on my Blogg • I felt that Slide Share was a useful

website as I learnt that it was an easy way to develop my documents , videos and PDFs in a much clearer form and presentation. For example, I uploaded all of my Celtx PDFs on slideshare
