Evaluation Question #4HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION, RESEARCH, PLANNING AND EVALUATION STAGES?

Introduction Throughout the construction of this product, different types of technology proved

imperative. Technology was the sole method in actually producing the final product. I utilised a wide range of technologies to aid me in each stage of the advanced portfolio.

• Nikon DLSR• Trinity kite learning• Adobe After effects CS5, CS6, Creative

cloud• Adobe Photoshop CS5, CS6, Creative

cloud• Adobe Premiere pro CS5, CS6, Creative

cloud

• Adobe Media Encoder• YouTube• Prezi • Slideshare• IPhone 4s• Microphone• Google Drive• Umbrella stand lighting• Gmail

Nikon DLSR Camera (Development)

This camera was the primary equipment we used for recording. Its HD visuals and advanced focus (depth of field) allowed us to create an appealing feel. With the visuals and sound combined we were able to create the atmosphere we wanted and this DLSR helped us accomplish this.

It was essential when constructing our mise-en-scene. The camera also had pretty good sound qualities, it allowed us to capture nice ambience sounds that would be vital when developing an atmosphere.

Nikon DLSR Camera (Development)I filmed the shots in 24 frames per second at 1080p HD. Filming in these settings allowed me to capture the best kinds of shot in relation to visual quality. When going out to film, we had to charge the battery to full and if possible, take an extra charged battery so that we weren’t interrupted when filming.

I used the camera for different shots and angles. In combination with other media equipment such as a tripod and the steadycam, it was possible to obtain even creative and better shots.

These are some of the “behind the scenes” shots of me using the DLSR camera. I used the camera in a daylight setting to obtain the optimum visuals. We filmed in a range of locations.

This is a photo of me using the camera in combination with the Tripod. This was to help steady the camera shot and angle.

Trinity Kite learning ( Pre-Production, Development, Post Production)

This website acted as the foundation for all of our blog work, this included planning and research, development, evaluations, pre-production, production and post-production. The website allowed you to create and alter your blogs format in the way you wanted. It also contained a multitude of features such as being able to insert and embed flash products or videos.

This is my a section of my blog on the website I used. As you can see I was able to place videos and other types of components unto the blog.

Adobe After Effects & Sony Vegas(Post Production)

These were our secondary editing programs. This program specialised in effects and composition. Without these programs the gun fire and muzzle flash effect would seem less professional as we would have to use other inefficient editing software (as we didn’t have any other programs that was the same standard).

In this photo, the effect not only creates a muzzle flash from the gun but also emits a light/shadow onto the person shooting it. Furthermore, smoke is shown every time the gun is fired. This is all to construct a pseudo gun shot.

We also added a blood splatter effect so it improves the verisimilitude of the gun fight and death scenes.

Adobe Photoshop CS5,CS6 and CC(Pre production, Development and Post Production

Adobe Photoshop is an editing program that specialises in editing images, photo stills etc. When constructing my ancillary tasks, this was perhaps the main program I used. I had to learn new skills in order to create my desired product. Throughout the process, I feel as though my skills in using Photoshop have improved. Here’s an example of me using Photoshop:

This is a print screen of me editing my ancillary poster which I created on Photoshop. You can see all the layers and images I used on the right hand side of the page, as well as the ruler setting.

This program was the primary program we used throughout the advanced portfolio. Since our product was video based I had to use a video editing program in order to construct the final product. Throughout the process, I gradually upgraded the software from CS5 to CS6 and from CS6 to CC (Creative cloud).

Not only did I use this program in the production stages, but also within the pre-production and post-production stages. I used it to create necessary vlogs about media subjects for example my analysis of real life products were made on premiere pro.

The program isn’t only proficient in editing visual files but also helped when edited audio files for the Foley editing.

Adobe Media Encoder(Post Production) Adobe Media Encoder is an encoding

program. This program would allow me to render and export my videos in High definition. Without it my videos wouldn’t be able to reach 720p or 1080p and would look pixelated when exported. Furthermore it allowed me to queue and pause the encoding so I could easily multitask without having to wait for an encoding to finish.

YouTube(pre production, post production)

YouTube acted as a way to put videos onto my blog as Trinity kite learning needed a URL to embed the video. It also enabled me to conduct research on my genre. I did this by watching other forms of media on this website such as short films. I was able to analyse the videos there for inspiration when creating my own product.

IPhone 4s (Pre production, Post production)

This phone made a huge contribution to the production of this film as well. Since the main communication methods, teenagers use today is the mobile phone. Some use emails but not for quick short term messages. With my 8 megapixel camera, it was easy to take photos on the move. However, the quality obviously lacks the high standard of a professional, photo specialised camera. I could use these apps to edit photos like I would on the computer but not with such precision. Furthermore, with the Internet features, I could do research, gain images and more almost anywhere. Also, through the use of apps, I was able to accomplish small tasks wherever I was such as downloading sound and audio files. Not to mention, this device acted as my primary communications device talked to my group members through the use of WhatsApp. In addition, I could assemble all the actors easily as I created an exclusive group chat for the cast members/production crew involved in the film. The phone had an installed microphone application, which came in handy if we needed to record audio files. It also helped when I was testing what the actor’s dialogue would sound like if applied to the film

Gmail & Google Drive(Development)

I used the website to send my teammates video files that they needed for their own blog. It was also a convenient method of transferring sound files from my phone to my computer and vice versa. The Google drive allowed me to store files online and thus allowing my group members to easily access it.

Conclusion

Ultimately, I used a collection of different technology and they have all  helped me with my objective of constructing  a short film and its poster and magazine review in a diversity of ways and without it; the end product  that I generated would be noticeably  less professional and of a much lesser quality. Furthermore, It would have also resulted in me being less conventional in my production and showing less cohesive and clear research, planning, skills and evidencing
