How did you use photography, Photoshop, Publisher etc to

create your posters and magazine covers. Which specific skills did you need to master ?

Use of photography…

• For my poster and magazine cover I have taken lots of photos of slightly different angles etc of my models face as I was certain I wanted her face as the main image on my poster but I wasn’t sure which angle would look best. I borrowed a friends camera as it is one specifically bought for her photography course and I needed the pictures to be of really good quality because the image for my poster is a close up.

Use of Photoshop..

• I used Photoshop for my poster and magazine. I found it a lot easier to use for my construction work this year because I feel my skills have developed. I am now able to do a lot of things that last year I was unable to do without help. This meant that working out how to do things didn’t take up as much time as last year and so my time could be spent more constructively. For example I am now able to fiddle with the levels on the images to make them more effective.

Here is where I changed the levels

Use of Photoshop

• One tool in particular that I have learnt to use is the smudge tool. I used this on my poster – I used it to smudge my title to try and make it a bit more visually exciting than just a plain font. I think the font looks better now that it is smudged because it remains simplistic but it also allows for the title to stand out more than the other writing (the size also contributes to this – obviously).

PowerPoint

• I like the idea of being able to present work through PowerPoint as I am now. I feel like this is a more interactive way to talk about my work and I like the way it enables me to incorporate images and examples of my work into it. They seem to add some variety to my work because a lot of my written work is just posted on to the blog in simple paragraphs and doesn’t look particularly exciting. Once I have created these PowerPoint’s I can use the website ‘slideshare’ to post them onto my blog.

Adobe Premier Elements

• One thing that I feel I could have used better in my trailer was transitions. I feel like I didn’t know how to use effectively and thus didn’t use very many. If I had played around with them a little bit more then I may have been able to make my trailer run more smoothly and be a better trailer overall. However there was one transition in particular that I feel works very well. This I in the clip where my main character is in bed and then sits up as the quilt moves off her.

Sound• To get some of my sound clips I decided to use the video recorder. I did this

because it was easy to just bring the clip into Adobe Premier Elements and then take away the video; then place it into the time line and it just plays the sound. The first clip I did this with was the one of the girls singing in the last part of the trailer. I also used the software (Adobe Premier Elements) to edit this sound clip which made it sound like it was children singing. I edited the pitch of the clip. I think this was a good decision because it made the clip sound creepy.
