Evaluation question 3 Jamie Oliver
What have you learned from audience feedback?• There were 2 areas in which I gained audience feedback, these
areas included the final pieces for my main product and the two ancillary tasks as well as on the audience on things such as what other bands they may listen to and what dress sense they may have.
Music video• I gained feedback from my target audience during the
production stages of my music video, this was on things such as the shots I had chosen as well as things such as colour correction and the way in which I had styled my music video. This changed the general outcome of my music video as I was able to use all of this to my advantage and create a piece in which my target audience would have a genuine interest in.
Typography• The things this had an effect on included the use of
typography, this was a method of post-production I had little experience with but due to suggestions from my audience I decided that it would add a narrative effect to my music video and avoid the chorus from looking too plain as the shot used was 'too long' which is quoted directly from a member of my target audience.
Colour correction• The use of colour correction to reduce the brightness was
quite a big part of the post production stage as it meant that I was able to give my music video a more cinematic look as with the standard brightness it generated a cartoon like effect on the chorus section which is a larger proportion of the song.
Other effects on my music video • The final effect my audience research had on my final piece
was the use of the feathered effect on various shots that I had used. This was something I had used in a rough draft and it received a good reception which lead to me keeping the effect in use.
Music magazine advertisement• My music magazine advertisement has been affected by
audience research in a positive way also as my original version of it had been in colour, this made it difficult to read and it took focus away from the image due to the sun in the background being so bright.
• After correcting this I had more audience feedback which then made another issue apparent as the change to a black and white image made the white writing difficult to read, I then used this feedback to change the writing from white to black for the tour dates and kept the artist name and album name in white as they were located on darker sections of the image.
CD Digipack• I again had a lot of audience feedback throughout the
production stages of my CD Digipack, this included various colour correction tools on the different images I used so that the writing could be read easily as well as audience feedback on where the respective pieces of writing should be located.
• Using this feedback enabled me to identify that the writing for the front cover didn't stand out as much as I'd have liked so I made the image darker so the artist name and the album name could be read effectively. I also had the same issue with another still image from my music video which I used as the back cover. I had to make this image darker so that the track listing didn't disappear due to the brightness of the sun located in the center of the image.
My Target Audience• Using audience research I was able to identify what sort of
person would listen to my chosen artist which meant I was able to make sure all of my media products would appeal to them. This audience research gave me feedback on what genre they thought the artist I had chosen would fit in to.
• The generic answer that came back was hard rock although a few people said metal. This meant that I was able to look into similar artists to figure out what kinds of clothing they wear through their music videos and various pieces of live footage to see what these people tend to dress like.
• This enabled me to identify bands such as Killswitch Engage, Trivium and Parkway Drive all as artists that would have similar fans to bands such as Times of Grace. Using this I was able to identify generic clothing that people at these shows would be seen in which is evidenced on my blog. Generally they would wear dark clothing such as vans, dark jeans and band t-shirts.
