Audience feedback

Within this project audience feedback is a very important aspect. It lets us find out what our target audience think about our video, good and bad points and if they think we should be changing anything. We aimed the target audience at fans that already follow the band or that like similar bands, we asked them question so we could receive some information that could help improve the video and to make it look more like a professional video. Within this PowerPoint you will see the different question we asked and what feedback we received about the video and also if we changed anytime. We also used social networking sites to gain some more feedback from different people.

Q1: What do you, as a target audience, think we could do to improve our advert for the song?

We asked members of our target audience the question that is below, here are some of the responses:

Jacob: I don’t like how the name of the band isn’t on the poster, its confusing.

Dan: I like the picture in the background a lot, as it links the video, digipack and poster together. However I don’t like the mini album picture and the colour of the text.

Chloe: There needs to be some more information at the bottom, like social media. I don’t like the black bar either. I really like the reviews on the side and the background picture.

What we learnt from question 1

From question 1’s feedback we learnt a lot. We decided to add a number of social networking sites at the bottom of the poster as this has become a good way of fans connecting with the band. Another thing we changed was the colour of the text as it was to similar with the background and then replaced the text that we used of ‘Biffy Clyro’ and use the same one the actual band uses to make it look professional.

When we made these changes we decide that we would ask another question about the posters to people ‘what do you think of the finished poster?’ and made a pie chart which you can see on the right and it tells you that 25 people love the poster and just 1 person didn’t like it so we thought it was a pretty good poster from the reaction we got. This is an example of how we learnt from audience feedback to create a successful advertising poster.

Q2: What would you improve on the digipack?

We decided to ask people what that thought of our Digipak and how they think we could improve it, as the target audience are going to be interested in the album art we asked them, their feedback is below:

Abdul: I really like how the front and the back are linked through the opposite ends of the picture, as it works together well. I think you should have more information about the band in the overall digipack though.

Callum: I don’t like the text so I would improve that , but I think as a whole it works well. The different colour effects that have been put on work well as it blurs the background, but keeps the character in the foreground in focus.

Poppy: I would try to improve the layout on the back, as I don’t like how all the information is stuck at the bottom when it could be more spaced out.

What we learnt from question 2

The main thing that we learnt from the second question was that people thought that we should of related it more the to band. And to do this we would need to change in inside panels so we put the song lyrics in the side with a man playing guitar and on the other side we put the Biffy Clyro logo but we edited that ourselves to make it our own. We think from this it has addressed the negatives of the feedback we received, as you can see with the inside two panels to the right of the screen.

Also to the right of the screen is a pie chart that represents the answer of the 25 people we asked the question to and it resulted in 15 people saying they loved it and only 3 people saying they didn’t like it.

Q3: WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE FIRST DRAFT OF THE MUSIC VIDEO? WHAT COULD BE IMPROVED AND WHY?

After our first editing session we decide that we would show a few people the first few minutes to see what they thought. On our blog there is already a post about this feedback.

Rory: “I really like the video, I like the bit where there is two of the character on the screen, with one lip syncing and the other walking away as this shows how he is feeling. I think you could improve the transitions, maybe by using blur or dissolve?”

Connor: “I like the transitions such as the zooming into the male character eyes in order to show the flash back, I also like how in time the lip syncing is in parts. I didn’t like the pan of the lake as this is a bit boring and colorless.”

What we learnt from question 3This question gave us an insight on the what people thought of our first video, we learnt what people liked throughout the video. Such as the effects which they was a overlap of rob walking as well as lip syncing on the path and that they didn’t like the pan shot of the lake as it was a long and boring shot. So we took this feedback and went back to the editing suite and focused on using a blur and mixing up the transitions to make the video more smooth and look more professional. We decided that we would change the hard light in order to make the pan of the lake look more interesting in the video as we didn’t have another good shot to fill this gap with.

We made these changes and asked the audience again, ‘what do you think of the music video now that we have make the changes?’. And the bar chart to the right shows the feedback on what they thought of the video before we made the changes and after we did. You can see as its clearly colour coded.

After we had made a number of different changes to our video and the group was happy with the turn out. We decided that we’d asked all of the target audience what they thought of it, and used the feedback to evaluate and improve the final video. Comments are below.

Luke: I think that it works as a music video, especially because of the themes presented in the song. However, there are some aspects I would improve such as some little jumps in the cuts.

Maddie: I love the video, haven seen some of Biffy’s past videos I know that this narrative mixed with lip syncing is just like them! Especially in their most recent video Biblical.

What we learnt from question 4

This question is to find out what the audience think of the product and how it links to previous work done by Biffy Clyro and see if they think it needed any improvements. But we did go over the video one final time to make sure very gap was filled as Luke did mention some in his feedback so we just made sure everything was correct.

From this we learnt that we had achieved one of the main aims of linking the video to the themes and conventions of Biffy Clyro’s past work. As many of the target audience agreed that we had match it and if not bettered their expectations.

We then asked one final question: ‘Does this video look like a product that would be made by Biffy Clyro?’ and the pie chart to the right shows the results.

Social media FEEDBACK

After we had finished we decided that we would get some more feedback by uploading the video onto Facebook and YouTube. This would give a wider range of feedback from some people that don’t normally listen to this type of music just to see what they think of the final product.

And also our video would be watch by Biffy Clyro fans and they would give their option and give us some good feedback.

To the right is the feedback we got when we put our video on to Facebook to get some feedback off a wider range our people out side of school. As you can see the comments on the right are all good comment and they tell us what they like about the video, for example they like the camera angles and how we shot the scenes and overall it’s a cool video. Also that they like the transitions from each section of the video to another. And that they love the part where they flash back to the argument scene from the blur of both their eyes. Another comment about how he thought the whole video flowed and fitted together really well was good as it tell us that the video makes sense.

By putting our music video on Facebook it allowed us to receive a wider range of comment from different people.

The views on YouTube

Although we didn’t receive any comment on YouTube, you can see from the amount of views that we have that people are liking our video as it mas a lot views any most A2 Music video out there. And this shows that it is a popular music video to watch with 168 views already.

What we have learnt from the audience feedback

From the audience feedback we learnt a lot and it helped us create a better overall product.

It allowed our target audience to tell us what they actually think of our product and how we could improve it. We took the comments on board and made the changes that were suggested and tried to make sure it improved our video of the points they gave us.

From the feedback we received we tried to react to the target audience and I think overall with what we received was successful and made our final product look a lot better.
