What message do your costumes and locations send to the audience about the class and status of the character?

I based my trailer on the scripted reality soap, Made In Chelsea.

Our characters had symbols and colour codes to represent their personality.

Our character names were based on expensive jewellery to reflect their fancy and over the top lifestyles.

We chose to call our soap The Edge, as it was set in Elderly Edge, a very wealthy area of Manchester. Also as an edge is something risky and so represents the youthful characters in it. Also it sounds interesting so will appeal to the target audience.

What message do your costumes and locations send to the audience about the class and status of the character?

From Made In Chelsea I took the following ideas:• Upper class area We used Bramhall.

• Casual but fancy/smart clothing. We put the girls in smart trousers and fancy tops. Boys in smart polo shirts and trousers. Wore heels for both day and night.

•Neatly applied makeupWe made sure that we didn’t look cheap with orange foundation and tacky accessories.

•FashionableWe made sure that all our outfits were key trends such as feather jewellery, chinos and embroided tops.

• A posh restaurant/café being the main meeting point. Like the Rovers Return in Coronation Street. We used Picolinnos restaurant in Bramhall.

Does the editing connote the emotions shown in the trailer?

I chose to do a series of slow motion clips, for each character. I used the slow motion as it reflects the sad emotions that they are all feeling. It also reflects their mind set, as if they have stopped thinking, and are all in shock with the different problems/news they have just been faced with, such as breakups and lies.

This slow motion edit is also used in the same way, in Holly Oaks to create suspense and drama.

Does the editing connote the emotions shown in the trailer?

I used the fade to black technique, whilst using slow motion, and slower beat in the music, to show that a chapter of the characters lives have ended.

It was also used to make the scenes more dramatic and so that audience have time to take in all the information given so far and feel emotion for the characters.

I also chose to fade to black, to reflect the situation, that it’s a dark time for all the characters and that it reflects their emotions, wanting to hide away and get away from all the drama going on.

90210 also uses the fade to black edit to let the audience piece together the information given.

Does the editing connote the emotions shown in the trailer?

I used the sudden change of colour, to black and white to reflect the adrenalin and emotion that the character is sad and weak, but also that the relationship is dead. I got this idea from black and white movies which are from the past, and so reflects that the feelings the character felt are also in the past.

Does the editing connote the emotions shown in the trailer?

I used fast cut edits with no transactions during this scene to show the rush of anger between the characters and how emotions were so high that decisions were made quickly.

This fast moving scene also made the audience excited and gave them an adrenaline rush, to see what happened. As it all happened so fast, it also left them with the emotion of empathy for the character Safire.

Made in Chelsea also use a two shot, with the camera being the fourth wall, to create an enclosed feeling, as if the audience is

involved.

Does the editing connote the emotions shown in the trailer?

The flash back edit from the present day (phone) to the past (affair) not only makes it clear to the audience what is going on but also makes them feel angry at Preston and sorry for Pandora.

This edit also put the audience in suspense as they are unaware of who is sending the text.

How did the use of title cards tell narrative and give narrative perspective?

I used purple title cards with white, bold, American typewriter font as that is a convention of E4.

The text on the title cards are from the song ‘I spy’ by The Pulp. I thought that using lyrics would be effective as they are more poetic and the song is about spying and from the point of view of a powerful person and so fitted my trailer storyline perfectly.

I made the title cards from the point of view of the stalker, Sierra, which made the audience feel part of a secret and excited as Sierra is the only character that knows everything about everyone else.

I also used the title cards as markers, to start and end sections of the story and help the audience relate and understand the action on screen.

How did the use of title cards tell narrative and give narrative perspective?

This card told the audience who the boy and girl were, but still didn’t reveal who was spying, leaving them in suspense.

This card put suspicion in the audiences mind and was used to make them rethink their opinions on characters and relationships.

Holly Oaks also used the purple and white title cards as markers, to help the audience understand the storyline.

How did the use of title cards tell narrative and give narrative perspective?

This card told the audience that the character speaking on the cards was mysterious and slightly evil which is maybe not what they were originally thinking.

This card starts off in colour and fades to black which reflects the text, and tells the audience that this character is dark and slightly odd.I also used type writer effect on all of the text to show that the character is saying things as she thinks them. It also doesn’t reveal things straight away, which reflects her character and leaves the audience in suspense.

Does the soundtrack add extra meaning?

I used the non diegetic sound of ‘we own the sky’ by M83

I chose this song because I thought the style would appeal to my target audience. I also chose it because it had a variety of crescendos and tempo changes to which I could fit my edits to the beat and would help enhance emotion.

The lyrics also enhanced the meaning of the trailer.

‘Secrets from the winds’

‘We own the sky’

‘Can’t we change our minds?’

‘Burnt stars crying’

The word secret is a key theme in the trailer and reflects Preston's’ cheating.

The word own suggest power which reflects Sierras power over everyone.

This reflects Safire breaking up with Sabbo.

This reflects when Pandora and Crystal find out someone is watching them.

BEAT BEAT

BEAT

FAST BEAT

I made sure that every time the main beat came in, a new edit was introduced. Not only did this add suspense but when the faster beat started, the audience knew that the main action was going to take place or that something big was going to be revealed.
